Musée Boleslas Biegas

Musée Bolesław Biegas is an exhibition devoted to the Polish sculptor, painter, playwright and essayist Bolesław Biegas, who lived from 1877 to 1954. The museum’s own page says his sculpture in plaster, terracotta and bronze was considered and admired alongside Rodin’s work. It also presents his paintings and places them in dialogue with artists active in France during the early twentieth century. The Société Historique et Littéraire Polonaise is Biegas’s universal legatee and is responsible for caring for his work. This page covers that artist-focused museum, not every collection held by the institution.

The museum’s official description names sculpture in plaster, terracotta and bronze, together with paintings by Biegas. It places these works beside paintings by Olga Boznańska, Gustave Gwozdecki and Paula Troubetzkov, artists active in France in the early twentieth century and associated with the École de Paris. The Institut says Biegas’s sculpture was admired alongside Rodin’s during his lifetime. This is therefore a focused artist display with a broader Polish and Parisian artistic context, rather than a survey of every period represented in the Bibliothèque Polonaise’s collections.

The Institut does not publish a fixed route length or an official visit duration for the Biegas museum. Plan according to whether you want to concentrate on Biegas alone or also examine the other museum rooms in the same building. The display combines several media and includes works by artists shown alongside him, so a hurried pass can miss the relationships the operator highlights. Keep the museum visit separate from Lectorium research time: archive and library use follows a different purpose, contact route and registration process and should not be folded into a sightseeing estimate.

The current visitor page lists museum opening hours from Tuesday to Friday, 10:00–13:00 and 14:00–18:00, with a midday closure. Saturday is listed as 10:00–18:00 without that break. Monday and Sunday are not published as opening days. Arrive with enough margin before the closing time for the rooms you want to see. The Institut also posts exceptional notices when events alter access or hours, so check the same visitor page shortly before travelling instead of relying on an older directory listing or on the Lectorium schedule.

The current visitor page lists standard museum admission at €7 and a €4 rate for students and visitors over 65. Entry is free for people under 18, jobseekers, SHLP members and their families, journalists and ICOM cardholders. Payment is cash only. The Institut gives a separate group rate of €40 for twelve people, with each additional visitor charged €4 or €7 according to status, and asks groups to contact the artistic-collections department. These are museum and exhibition tariffs; free admission announced for an individual event should not be assumed to replace the normal museum ticket.

The Institut gives the Paris address as 6 Quai d’Orléans, 75004, on Île Saint-Louis. Its contact page lists Pont Marie on Métro line 7 and Saint-Paul on line 1; it also names Saint-Michel–Notre-Dame for RER B and C. Bus routes 63, 67, 86 and 87 are listed as nearby options. Navigate to the Bibliothèque Polonaise de Paris rather than searching for a separate street entrance under the Biegas museum name. The operator publishes no dedicated step-free approach on this page, so contact the institute before travelling if a particular access arrangement is essential.

Do not use the Lectorium’s rules as museum instructions. The visitor page separates museum opening and ticket information from research access to the archives and library. The Tuesday–Friday museum day also has a real 13:00–14:00 closure, so an arrival during that hour is not covered by the morning or afternoon session. Group visits have a dedicated contact and price rather than the individual admission process. Finally, temporary event notices can change particular dates. Confirm the current notice before departure, especially when visiting around an institutional programme or public event.

The official museum and visitor pages describe the collection, hours, prices and group arrangements but do not publish a general photography policy for the Biegas rooms. Ask staff before photographing any work, exhibition label or interior, and follow instructions given in the gallery. Do not infer permission from the presence of images on the Institut’s website or from rules at another Paris museum. Biegas works are displayed with works by other artists, so rights and loan conditions may differ within the same visit. Keep the camera put away whenever a room notice or staff member requires it.
