Start with a choice between the Crown Jewels and the White Tower, then add the outer route if time allows. The Jewel House presents the coronation regalia; the White Tower contains the Line of Kings armour display, Armoury in Action and St John’s Chapel. Outside, the battlements and Medieval Palace explain how the fortress also functioned as a royal home and defence. The Bloody Tower, Fusiliers Museum and Royal Mint exhibition offer different strands of the site’s history.

The standard ticket covers open public areas, including the Crown Jewels, and a Yeoman Warder tour subject to availability. That wording matters: conservation work can close rooms or routes on a particular day. Use the operator’s suggested itineraries to select priorities before arrival, especially if you want both a tour and the Jewel House.

The 90-minute highlights route concentrates on the Crown Jewels, White Tower and ravens. The operator's two-hour suggestion adds a Warder tour, Medieval Palace, Tower Green and chapel. These are alternatives: a visitor interested in armour should protect time inside the White Tower, while someone interested in imprisonment can use a longer route for the Bloody Tower. Check current room access before committing to either sequence.

Allow around three hours for a visit that includes the Crown Jewels, the White Tower and a Yeoman Warder tour. This is a planning allowance, not a guaranteed time to complete every room. Historic Royal Palaces publishes a 90-minute highlights route, a two-hour route with a Warder tour, and longer three- and four-hour options. Its itinerary notes that pace, party size and busy periods change the time needed.

If time is tight, choose the Jewel House and White Tower first; add the battlements or Medieval Palace if the clock permits. The Crown Jewels exhibit may require a longer wait at busy times. A Warder tour has fixed departures and cannot be reserved in advance. The final departure varies in the dated calendar: 15:15 on 24 October 2026 and 14:30 on 26 October. Check the calendar for your date before treating a tour as part of a late visit.

The operator recommends at least 20 minutes for the Crown Jewels alone, with longer waits possible in busy periods. That minimum excludes moving between buildings and exploring the White Tower. A three-hour plan should reserve flexible time for the Jewel House and treat a Warder departure as a fixed point. If the next tour would consume the time needed for your main priority, follow a self-guided route. Compare the timed routes before booking another attraction immediately afterwards.

Select your actual visit date on the Tower’s opening calendar; the hours, last entry and final Yeoman Warder tour change. As dated examples checked on 25 September 2026, Saturday 24 October shows 09:00–17:30 with last entry at 16:30, while Monday 26 October shows 09:00–16:30 with last entry at 15:00. The operator displays different Sunday starts across September and October. These observations do not prove a permanent weekly or annual seasonal schedule.

Check the calendar again close to travel, including route and chapel notices. The Chapel Royal is a working chapel and can close independently of the wider site. A last-entry arrival leaves too little time for the three-hour route. The listed final Warder tour changes by date, and special events or gun salutes can affect areas or tours. The operator’s 25 October entry unusually shows last entry at the same time as closing, so confirm that date with the operator rather than treating the displayed cutoff as a promise of admission.

The Tower charges for general admission. On the operator’s ticket table checked 25 September 2026, a no-donation standard ticket for an adult aged 18–64 costs £37 for visits through 30 September 2026 and £38 for visits from 1 October 2026. Donation-inclusive options cost £40.70 and £41.80 respectively. These figures describe that adult category and those dated tables, not every visitor or special experience. Check your selected date and ticket type again before purchase, especially for later dates. Online advance booking is advised during busy holidays; the ticket office also sells admission on the day.

Standard admission includes the Crown Jewels and open public areas, plus a Yeoman Warder tour when available. Audio guides and special products such as early Opening Ceremony access have separate prices and terms. Children aged 0–4 enter free without a ticket under the ticket table. Separately, the accessibility terms allow one accompanying carer or companion free with a disabled visitor; additional companion bookings have their own procedure. Neither exception makes general admission free.

The Tower stands at Tower Hill, London EC3N 4AB. From Tower Hill Underground station on the District and Circle lines, the operator estimates a five-minute walk; Tower Gateway DLR and Tower Pier are other practical approaches. Follow the operator’s directions to the Tower entrance, since the surrounding Wharf, shop and outer walls are separate from the ticketed route. Tower Hill station has step-free access to street level, but that fact alone does not make the entire historic site step-free.

There is no on-site car parking in the vehicle-free Tower Hill zone. The accessibility guide describes nearby Blue Badge parking and the routes through the site, including cobbles, slopes and stairs. If mobility is a concern, choose the accessible areas you most want to see before travel and confirm the current route with Historic Royal Palaces; a generic station-to-gate instruction cannot resolve access within every tower.

For a riverside approach, Tower Pier is close to the Tower, but Tower Wharf is still outside the paid site. Travellers using a wheelchair can consult the operator's access guide before choosing a station or drop-off point. It identifies lifts to street level at Tower Hill and Tower Gateway, plus nearby Blue Badge bays; the route beyond the gate depends on the spaces you intend to enter.

Arrive without a suitcase or large rolling bag: the Tower has no left-luggage facility and does not permit those items inside. Security staff may search visitors on entry. Uneven cobbles, worn steps, slopes and low-light rooms require care, especially in rain or with children. The facilities guidance gives the current restrictions and toilet locations. The separate accessibility guidance says re-entry is not allowed after you leave the site, so finish the areas you want before going outside.

Access differs markedly within the fortress. The Jewel House has level access, while the Battlements, Bloody Tower and Imprisonment exhibition lack lift or ramp access. The ordinary Yeoman Warder tour crosses 21 steps and uneven cobbles and may be changed or cancelled in poor weather or heavy crowds. Conservation work can also close individual rooms. Use the operator’s access guide and current notices for a route you can actually take; do not infer that every ticketed space is accessible by the same path.

Families should plan for the White Tower separately: pushchairs and buggies are not permitted inside, and the operator marks buggy parks near its entrance and Middle Drawbridge. Toilets with baby-changing facilities are behind the Jewel House at Brick Tower. A Changing Places toilet is in the New Armouries building; obtain its radar key from café staff. These locations matter because leaving the site for facilities ends the visit under the no-re-entry rule.

Personal photographs are allowed in most areas of the Tower, but not in the Jewel House or St John’s Chapel inside the White Tower. That means visitors cannot photograph the Crown Jewels themselves. Other individual objects may also carry restrictions under loan arrangements, so read the sign or ask staff before photographing them. The facilities page states the current location rules.

Tripods, monopods, gimbals and indoor selfie sticks require arrangements in advance. Commercial or media photography also needs prior contact with Historic Royal Palaces. Keep other visitors’ privacy in mind, particularly children and vulnerable people, and leave circulation routes clear. Exterior views from the publicly accessible parts of the site can still document the walls and White Tower, but do not treat an outside photograph as permission to ignore restrictions inside a chapel or exhibition.
