Auckland Airport: AirportLink, SkyDrive or Taxi

Auckland Airport is the city’s main airport, about 21 kilometres from the heart of Auckland. International and domestic terminals are on the same site, but they use different transport stops. AirportLink is the main public-transport connection. The orange bus links both terminals with Puhinui Station and Manukau Bus Station. At Puhinui, Southern and Eastern Line trains connect with central, eastern and southern Auckland. Use AirportLink when your accommodation fits the AT bus-and-train network. SkyDrive is the direct airport coach to Hobson Street near Sky Tower and SkyCity. It runs non-stop between the airport and central Auckland, so it suits CBD hotels; you still need to walk or take a local connection from the city stop. Taxis, Super Shuttle and pre-booked shuttles provide door-to-door travel. InterCity is for scheduled regional journeys, including Hamilton, rather than the normal CBD transfer. AirportLink’s published bus leg from Puhinui takes 13–17 minutes to the domestic terminal and 18–20 minutes to the international terminal. Those figures exclude the train from your starting station, the interchange, terminal walking, waiting and the final route to your accommodation. Route 38 takes 30–35 minutes between Onehunga and the airport. It travels via Māngere Town Centre, so it is useful for Onehunga and Māngere addresses but is not a CBD express. SkyDrive publishes approximately 35 minutes in ideal traffic and warns that the trip can take up to 55 minutes during rush hour or other busy periods. The coach ends at Hobson Street, not at your hotel door. InterCity publishes approximately one hour 50 minutes from Auckland Airport to Hamilton; that regional journey has its own timetable and stops. AT bus and train fares are based on zones. Current adult fares paid with an AT HOP card or contactless payment are NZ$3 for one zone, NZ$4.90 for two, NZ$6.50 for three and NZ$7.90 for four or more. AT charges one fare across connected bus and train services when you transfer correctly. Contactless payment is accepted on buses and trains; tag on and off with the same card or device. Contactless travel has a NZ$20 daily cap on included AT buses, trains and inner-harbour ferries. AT HOP has a NZ$50 seven-day cap. These caps do not cover SkyDrive, taxis, shuttles or InterCity. SkyDrive locks its fixed fare when you book. The booking portal shows the current price and seat availability for the selected date; the driver can sell a card-paid ticket if seats remain. Auckland Airport lists taxi fares to the CBD from NZ$62 to NZ$105, and Super Shuttle from NZ$20 per person for two passengers travelling together. AirportLink runs every 10 minutes, seven days a week, from 04:30 until 00:40. The bus serves the domestic terminal at Bus Stop B and the international terminal at Bus Stop A in the Transport Hub. Puhinui trains have a separate timetable, so check the connecting rail departure rather than treating the bus interval as a complete city schedule. Route 38 operates every 15–20 minutes during the day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Auckland Transport publishes a separate timetable for exact departures. SkyDrive runs every 30 minutes, seven days a week, from 05:00 to 22:30. The operator publishes the detailed departure times and remaining seats through its booking portal for the chosen travel date. InterCity airport departures are selected as scheduled journeys in its booking system, not offered as one repeating interval. AirportLink is the public-transport option with the latest published service window, ending at 00:40. Your Southern or Eastern Line train has its own operating pattern, and rail replacement buses may run during works. AT directs passengers to Journey Planner or the AT Mobile app when trains are not running to Puhinui. Verify both legs before relying on a late connection. SkyDrive is not an overnight service. Its published 05:00–22:30 pattern applies seven days a week, including Sunday. A booked ticket can be used on another SkyDrive shuttle on the same day when space is available, but that flexibility does not extend the operating window. For international arrivals, taxis, rideshare and Super Shuttle use the Transport Pick-up Zone outside Door 11. AirportLink uses wheelchair-accessible buses and has room for luggage. SkyDrive’s accessible fleet uses low floors, kneeling suspension and boarding ramps; each coach has a designated space for securing wheelchairs. InterCity buses have low floors, ramps or lifts and designated areas for mobility devices. Contact the operator before travel when a particular vehicle or securing arrangement is essential. The free bus between the international and domestic terminals runs every 15 minutes from 05:00 to 23:00 and takes approximately ten minutes. SkyDrive includes hand luggage and checked luggage within its published passenger allowance, with extra or unusual items subject to capacity and operator rules.
