Cape Town Airport: Taxis, Uber and Shuttles

Cape Town International Airport (CPT) is the city’s passenger airport. ACSA lists authorised taxis, app-based rides and shuttles to Cape Town and the Western Cape; its current transport page lists no rail or metro connection. Plan a road transfer from arrivals. For a walk-in journey, use an authorised airport taxi. ACSA directs arriving passengers to the transport kiosks and the domestic-arrivals desk in the Central Terminal Building. Uber is an authorised app-based alternative. Request the ride in the app after collecting your luggage, then follow the displayed directions to the pickup area. Uber directs passengers from both domestic and international arrivals to the e-hailing pickup area in Parkade 1, at pillars C and D. A pre-booked shuttle suits families, groups, heavy luggage and destinations outside the central city. ACSA lists Centurion Tours as an authorised airport shuttle operator. Centurion offers airport transfers, point-to-point transport, vehicle selection, online booking and payment. Enter the exact accommodation or destination before confirming the reservation. ACSA does not publish one fixed taxi or shuttle journey time from CPT to every Cape Town neighbourhood. City Bowl, the V&A Waterfront, Sea Point, Camps Bay, the southern suburbs and the Winelands are separate road destinations, so the airport-to-city-centre distance is not a door-to-door promise. Uber publishes an average UberX journey of 27 minutes from CPT and an average rate of R192. Uber says these figures are calculated from UberX trips taken from the airport during the previous six months. Road traffic, luggage collection and the final walk all sit outside any airport-to-destination estimate. A direct taxi or Uber goes to the accommodation, while a shuttle may involve a meeting point, a vehicle allocation and a longer route for other passengers. Centurion publishes airport and point-to-point transfers but no single universal airport-to-city duration on its public site; use the confirmed booking for the route you selected. The former MyCiTi airport bus connected the terminal station with Civic Centre, not with every hotel. Because the airport service is suspended, MyCiTi publishes no usable current airport journey time. There is no single airport-wide transfer fare. ACSA lists authorised taxi and shuttle operators but does not publish a fixed fare to Cape Town city centre or a universal meter tariff. Uber does not publish a flat airport-to-downtown fare. Its price depends on the ride type, estimated distance and duration, tolls, city fees and current demand. Centurion Tours provides online availability, vehicle selection and payment, but its public website does not display one universal CPT-to-city fare. The booking quotation is therefore the relevant current price for the selected route, vehicle and passengers. Airport road transfers do not share one timetable. ACSA publishes the authorised airport taxi walk-in window as 05:00 to midnight. It lists Centurion Tours from 06:00 to midnight. Uber is on demand rather than a scheduled departure. Uber publishes 24/7 airport requesting and says Uber Reserve can be booked up to 90 days ahead. MyCiTi has no current airport frequency to use. Its page says the former A01 buses departed every 20 minutes, but the same page prominently states that the airport service is temporarily suspended. For arrivals before midnight, the airport publishes a walk-in taxi service from 05:00 and a Centurion listing from 06:00. It also lists Citi Hopper from 08:00 to midnight on weekends. After midnight, Uber publishes 24/7 requesting at CPT. Uber also warns that early and late flights may have longer driver arrival times, and it does not guarantee that every request will be accepted until driver details are confirmed. There is no Sunday MyCiTi airport service while the suspension remains in force. The airport information desk is in Domestic Arrivals and operates Monday to Sunday, 24 hours. It can direct you to authorised transport, but it does not create a bus, taxi or shuttle booking outside the operator’s published service.
