İzmir Airport Transfers: İZBAN, Bus and Taxi

İzmir’s main airport is Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB), in Gaziemir, approximately 18 km from İzmir city centre. The airport operator lists Havaş shuttles, ESHOT municipal buses, İZBAN rail, taxis, car hire and private vehicles. (DHMİ airport transport information, checked 2026-09-28)

İZBAN is the most useful public-transport choice when your accommodation is near a suburban rail station or you are continuing north or south. The airport station connects with the terminals by lifts, escalators and a moving walkway. Follow the Metro-İZBAN signs after baggage reclaim, then use the operator’s planner for the departure direction, destination station and date. ESHOT routes 200, 202, 204 and 206 leave from the arrivals level. They run respectively between the airport and Mavişehir, Alsancak Cumhuriyet Avenue, Bornova Metro and Şirinyer Transfer Centre. Choose the line closest to your accommodation or onward connection. Havaş is a separate airport-shuttle operator: its planner asks for departure point, destination and date before showing the route, stops, hours, approximate duration and fare. The airport profile estimates road and public-transport trips to central İzmir at about 25 and 20 minutes; it says the train reaches İzmir in under 30. Use the train figure for the rail leg only. İZBAN’s official page requires an origin, destination and date before returning a journey, so the result depends on the station selected. A hotel near Alsancak, Halkapınar or another station can need little additional travel; an address away from the line needs a walk, taxi, bus or another rail connection. ESHOT does not publish one universal duration for all four airport routes. Its timetable gives planned departures and warns that traffic, weather, breakdowns and accidents can change service times. Havaş labels its displayed durations approximate and says traffic affects them. Enter the travel date and route in the Havaş planner before using the shuttle for a flight connection. The current ESHOT airport tariff lists 77 TL for a full İzmirim Kart boarding and 86 TL by bank card. The same table lists 38.50 TL for young passengers, 52 TL for teachers and 64 TL for passengers aged 60 or over. Routes 200, 202, 204 and 206 use this airport tariff. İZBAN uses a distance-based tariff. The current table lists 40 TL for the first 20 km on the full fare, then 1.50 TL for each additional kilometre. Other passenger categories have separate amounts. The airport-to-central İzmir fare therefore depends on the destination station and distance. Bilet 35 is a separate limited-use product. The current card page lists 2 rides for 140 TL, 3 rides for 205 TL, 5 rides for 315 TL and 10 rides for 540 TL. It remains valid for 35 days after first use, cannot be topped up and has no transfer right. Havaş displays the fare after you select the departure point, destination and date, and states that displayed ticket prices include VAT. Its general page does not publish one fixed İzmir airport price. Airport taxis use the meter; the airport also publishes a destination tariff, but it does not cover every İzmir hotel address. The airport directs passengers to ESHOT and İZBAN timetables; it publishes no one frequency for every route. Check the selected date and direction because traffic, weather or technical problems can change departures. ESHOT’s live route page for line 204 shows overnight departures from Bornova Metro at 00:40, 02:40 and 04:40, with airport departures at 01:40, 03:40 and 05:40. The page displays the same pattern across its listed calendar entries and marks accessible journeys with wheelchair symbols. Current ESHOT tables show overnight departures, but each airport route has its own date-specific schedule. For example, the live Line 204 page lists Bornova Metro departures at 00:40, 02:40 and 04:40, and airport departures at 01:40, 03:40 and 05:40. Check the chosen line and direction for your travel date. İZBAN and Havaş also require route-specific searches rather than relying on one fixed frequency. ESHOT lets you select Sunday in its live timetable. The current Line 204 page shows overnight trips on Sunday, but the four airport lines do not share one timetable. İZBAN does not publish one universal first or last airport train on its timetable landing page. It asks for the departure station, arrival station and date before showing the result. That matters after a late arrival: a train in the correct direction can still require a city interchange or onward local service. The airport lists the İZBAN booth as open every day from 07:00 to 14:40 and from 15:00 to 22:40. The station remains connected to both terminals, but the booth is not continuously staffed overnight. Havaş does not publish a universal late-night or Sunday timetable on its general page. It says services are planned around flight times and can change with weather or flight cancellations; confirm the service linked to your flight in its planner or through the contact centre. From domestic arrivals, reach the İZBAN station using the lifts and escalators opposite the exit. International arrivals connect through the moving walkway and Metro-İZBAN signs. ESHOT buses stop outside the domestic and international arrivals terminals. These terminal connections keep heavy luggage away from the vehicle-access road and make the rail option practical for travellers who need step-free access. Passengers needing airport wheelchair assistance should arrange it with the airline or ground handler before the flight. Airport information states that wheelchair service is provided by airlines and ground-handling companies, not by the airport transfer operators.
