Lisbon Airport Transfers: Metro, Bus or Taxi

At Lisbon Airport (LIS), choose a transfer by where you are staying and check the terminal shown on your airline’s booking. Aeroporto Metro station is on the Red Line, while the airport bus stops serve different neighbourhoods and are subject to luggage limits.

The Metro is the simplest public-transport option for many central addresses. Aeroporto station is on the Red Line, and the direct Aeroporto–Saldanha journey takes about 20 minutes. Carris buses stop near the airport arrivals area. Route 744 runs between Restauradores and Moscavide through Saldanha, Entrecampos, Aeroporto and Oriente. Route 783 links Amoreiras and Prior Velho through Saldanha, Entrecampos, Campo Grande and Aeroporto. Taxis queue outside the arrivals and departures areas. App-booked Bolt and Uber vehicles use the dedicated collection point at P2, level 2, arrivals level. ANA’s clearest public-transport figure is approximately 20 minutes from Aeroporto to Saldanha by Metro. This is a station-to-station estimate, not a hotel arrival time. Carris publishes stops and date-specific departures for routes 744, 783 and 208, but the route pages do not give one universal airport-to-hotel duration. Lisbon Airport says Gare do Oriente is 10 minutes away by Metro and a little longer by bus. Oriente is the city’s main railway station, so treat this as a separate airport-to-station leg before continuing by CP train. A train ticket does not remove the need to plan the airport connection. ANA describes the taxi ride to central Lisbon as quick, subject to traffic, but publishes no fixed duration for every address. A taxi is the direct choice for heavy luggage, a late check-in or an accommodation away from a Metro station. Road congestion still changes the door-to-door result. The 2026 Carris/Metro single ticket costs €1.90. It is valid across the full Carris and Metro networks for 60 minutes from the first validation, but it does not allow two consecutive Metro journeys. For a single Metro ride, contactless payment costs €1.92. Metro Lisboa accepts Visa, V Pay and Mastercard contactless cards, plus supported Apple Pay and Google Pay devices. A Carris bus ticket bought on board costs €2.30. It is valid only on the bus where you buy it and ends when you leave that vehicle. Carris accepts cash, bank card or contactless payment, and MB WAY through the validator. The €1.90 Carris/Metro product is separate and must be loaded on a transport card or bought through the public-transport ticketing system. The 24-hour Carris/Metro ticket costs €7.25. Combined 24-hour products cost €10.35 for Carris, Metro and Transtejo, including the Cacilhas–Cais do Sodré ferry, or €11.40 for Carris, Metro and CP urban rail. These products cover their named networks; choose the included networks according to your plans rather than buying a wider ticket automatically. For a taxi to central Lisbon, ANA publishes €10–€15 including luggage fees, with the final amount affected by traffic and the meter. It does not publish one fixed taxi fare for every hotel, suburb or hour. Check that the meter starts at departure and request a receipt or invoice. Under normal operating conditions, Metro Lisboa opens at 06:30 and closes at 01:00 every day, including weekends and public holidays. Passengers who board by 01:00 are guaranteed travel to stations on the same line. The Red Line’s published weekday intervals are about 9 minutes 45 seconds early in the morning, 6 minutes in the morning peak, 7 minutes 5 seconds through much of the day, 6 minutes in the evening peak and 9 minutes 45 seconds late at night. At weekends and on public holidays, the operator lists about 8 minutes 10 seconds in the morning, 7 minutes around midday, 8 minutes 10 seconds in the evening and 9 minutes 45 seconds late at night. Carris route pages separate timetable views by selected date and service pattern. Route 744 shows departures from early morning into the evening. Route 783 provides standard, weekend and pre-Metro views, with Aeroporto among its listed stops. Route 208 is marked as part of the night network, but Carris does not present one universal bus interval for every date. Select the applicable date before travelling. The airport operator lists Metro, buses, trains, taxis and app-booked vehicles, but does not publish one timetable for all modes. After the Metro’s normal closing window, Carris route 208 is the scheduled airport bus to check first. It links Cais Sodré and Estação Oriente through Aeroporto and belongs to the night network. Sunday Metro travel follows the published daily operating pattern: opening at 06:30 and closing at 01:00. The Red Line weekend averages range from about 8 minutes 10 seconds in the morning to 7 minutes around midday and 9 minutes 45 seconds late at night. Carris shows separate weekend and holiday views where they apply. Route 783 has distinct standard and weekend schedules, while route 208’s night service is selected through the route page’s date control. For an arrival after the practical public-transport connection, use the official taxi rank or the marked Bolt/Uber collection area. ANA says taxi and TVDE journeys must be contracted at the designated area or through the app, never from a person approaching inside the terminal. For an early departure, work backwards from your airline’s check-in and security requirement. Terminal 1 is open 24 hours, while Terminal 2 opens from 03:30 to 00:30; the T1–T2 shuttle does not operate between 01:30 and 03:30.
