Orlando Airport Transfers: Bus, Taxi and Rail

Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the main commercial airport for Orlando. The airport places downtown Orlando about 12 miles away, International Drive and the convention centre about 13 miles away, and the main Central Florida attractions about 20 miles away. Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) is the secondary airport travellers use when their flight suits it. SFB publishes a 30-minute drive to downtown Orlando, 45 minutes to Florida Mall, 55 minutes to Magic Kingdom and one hour to Disney Springs. Its taxi, rideshare and pre-arranged shuttle pickup area is across the road from baggage-claim areas 1–3. At MCO, LYNX is the main scheduled public-bus option. Buses leave from Terminal A’s Ground Transportation Level 1, Commercial Lane spaces A38–A41. MCO lists downtown Orlando, Florida Mall, the convention centre, SeaWorld, Premium Outlets and Sand Lake Road SunRail station among the destinations. Brightline’s station is beside MCO Terminal C. It is an intercity train for South Florida, connecting Orlando with West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Aventura and Miami; it is not a downtown Orlando metro. Mears Connect is the named shuttle option for Walt Disney World resorts, while taxis and rideshare provide direct road transfers. MCO’s published distance figures help distinguish the downtown and attractions corridors, but they are not arrival-time guarantees. A road vehicle goes directly to the address; LYNX may require a transfer and additional stops. Add baggage collection, terminal walking, traffic and the final hotel entrance to every airport figure. SFB publishes destination driving times rather than a fixed public-transport journey. Its operator lists downtown Orlando at 30 minutes, Disney Springs at one hour, Magic Kingdom at 55 minutes and Historic Downtown Sanford at ten minutes. The current LYNX Link 311 timetable publishes individual departures between MCO, Sand Lake SunRail station, Florida Mall, Universal-area stops, the convention-centre area and Disney Springs. It does not present one universal airport-to-hotel promise: the final destination and the selected departure determine the scheduled time. Use the date-specific timetable before boarding. Brightline publishes approximately two hours from Orlando to West Palm Beach and approximately three hours 30 minutes from Orlando to Miami. Those are train times from the airport station, not from an Orlando hotel. LYNX publishes a $2.00 single ride and a $4.50 all-day pass. The all-day pass runs from 4:00 a.m. on the issue date until 3:00 a.m. the following day and must be requested from the operator before putting money into the farebox. MCO’s approximate table lists downtown Orlando taxi estimates of $38–$45 per cab. Treat this as a planning range, not a fixed price: airport taxis use a meter, and traffic can change the total. The airport lists shuttle-van prices without stating clearly whether each figure is per passenger or per vehicle, so those amounts are omitted. MCO airport taxis are metered. The airport says taxis may carry up to nine passengers, charge the same rate regardless of passenger count and cannot use authorised flat-rate fees; the meter can therefore differ from the airport’s approximate table. Mears Connect publishes a Disney-resort walk-up total of $17.60 per adult one way and $14.30 per child aged 3–9, including its listed privilege-fee recovery charge. The round-trip totals are $33.60 per adult and $27.30 per child; children under three ride free. For a non-Disney hotel, use the operator’s booking quotation rather than extending this product price. Brightline does not publish one permanent Orlando fare on its station page. Its ticket terms state that Orlando departures include a $1.50 MCO departure fee per guest, while the final fare depends on date, time, class, fare product and availability. SunRail operates Monday through Friday. The operator publishes trains every 30 minutes during scheduled morning and evening peak periods, with less frequent midday service, and publishes exact station times on its current timetable. SunRail does not operate on weekends and does not operate on the listed major holidays. The Sand Lake Road connection uses LYNX routes 311, 11 and 42. Route 311’s current operator timetable is marked Monday–Sunday and holiday service, and the timetable gives individual clock times rather than one all-day frequency statement. Brightline publishes 16 daily round trips in its current Central–South Florida pattern, with hourly northbound and southbound departures. The Orlando station is open daily from 4:30 a.m. until the last train departure, but Brightline says the schedule can change and does not publish one permanent last-train clock time on the station page. Taxis, rideshare and pre-arranged shuttles do not share one airport-wide departure timetable. MCO publishes collection locations and approximate fares; SFB tells passengers to use its designated pickup zone. Sunday does not remove every public-bus option. SunRail is closed on weekends, so the rail connection through Sand Lake Road is unavailable, but LYNX Link 311 is published for Monday–Sunday and holiday service. For a late MCO arrival, a taxi is the simplest immediate road option. MCO lists taxi ranks at Terminal A spaces A22–A25 and Terminal B spaces B30–B34 on Level 1, and Terminal C on the Arrivals Curb at Level 6. Brightline’s station is open every day from 4:30 a.m. until the last train departure, including Sunday. That schedule serves South Florida, not a late-night ride from MCO to an Orlando hotel.
