Tallinn Airport: Tram, Bus and Taxi

Tallinn Airport (TLL) is the city’s main airport and stands 4 km from central Tallinn. The public-transport centre is at the northern, city-facing end of the terminal; from Arrivals, use the lift, escalator and walkway. Trams T2 and T4, buses 47, 49 and 65 depart there. T2 runs Airport–Old City Harbour–Kopli. It fits hotels around the harbour, Viru and the eastern side of the Old Town, while continuing north towards Kopli. T4 runs Airport–Tondi through the southern city corridor. Check the destination before boarding: both are direct airport trams but serve different parts of Tallinn. Buses 47, 49 and 65 serve Peetri School, Viimsi Centre and Priisle. They are useful for addresses along those routes, not interchangeable central-city services. Taxi is the simplest door-to-door choice with heavy luggage, a stroller, mobility equipment or a hotel away from the tram corridors. The airport lists Bolt, Forus Taxi and Uber for app bookings. Tallinn Airport publishes 4 km as the distance from the city centre. It does not publish one fixed airport-to-centre journey time for T2, T4 or bus 2. Treat a public-transport result as a stop-to-stop journey. Add the walk from the aircraft, passport control and baggage reclaim, then allow time to find the correct platform. Choose by the final address, not only by the line number. T2 heads towards Old City Harbour and Kopli, while T4 heads towards Tondi. A harbour hotel may fit T2; an address in the southern-centre or Tondi direction may fit T4. Check the exact stop and departure before leaving Arrivals. The airport does not publish a fixed taxi journey time to central Tallinn. The address, road conditions and route determine the road journey. Tallinn Airport publishes a €2 QR ticket for one hour of city public transport. Buy it online or at the ticket machine in the waiting area beside the airport tram and bus stop. You can also tap a contactless bank card on the validator inside a tram or city bus. Validate a QR ticket at each boarding during its validity period. Current non-resident prices are €5.50 for one day, €9 for three days and €11 for five days. Day tickets cover Tallinn trams, trolleybuses and city buses, including lines 1–96. Contactless payment works at the front validator. One bank card can buy a ticket for the cardholder and up to five companions by selecting the extra passengers. Repeated one-hour purchases for the cardholder are automatically counted towards the €5.50 day-ticket price during the transport day; the same benefit does not apply to companion tickets. Drivers do not sell tickets and cash is not accepted on Tallinn public transport. The Ühiskaart can be bought and topped up at the R-kiosk in the public arrivals area, but a visitor making one airport trip can use a QR ticket or contactless card. There is no single first-departure or last-departure time covering every airport route. For an early flight, search backwards from the required airport arrival time. For an evening landing, search forwards from the time you expect to leave baggage reclaim, then allow for the walk to the tram centre or bus 2 stop. The terminal is open 24 hours, but terminal opening does not mean that every tram or bus operates overnight. When the planner shows no suitable public-transport result, use an airport partner taxi. Bus 2 needs extra attention after dark or with substantial luggage. Its airport stop is on Tartu Highway in front of the car park, not at the main public-transport centre beside the terminal. Follow the airport signs and compare the stop name in the planner before leaving Arrivals. T2 and T4 depart from the centre at the northern end of the terminal.
