About Balajo
Le Balajo is a dance hall and nightclub at 9 rue de Lappe in Paris’s Bastille area. The venue’s history reaches back to 1931, when Jo France created a small cabaret called Le Bastoche at 32 rue de Lappe. In 1982, Robert Lageat and his son Jacques took over the Balajo, preserved its original decor and developed it into a nightclub. The current operator says the venue’s historic decor was retained when Fabien and Nicolas Chartol, Jacques Lageat’s grandsons, took over in 2007. Today, the programme combines social-dance evenings and club nights. The official schedule lists salsa, bachata and kizomba sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with urban clubbing continuing late on Thursdays. Friday and Saturday programming focuses on urban clubbing, including hip-hop, dancehall, shatta, zouk and afrobeats. Monday afternoons are dedicated to a tea dance, while a rock evening is listed once a month on Wednesdays. Because the programme is event-based, visitors should consult the official agenda for the specific date, start time and admission details before travelling. The venue is close to Bastille Métro connections on lines 1, 5 and 8.
