Chapelle de la Visitation is the chapel of the former Visitation monastery at 110 rue de Vaugirard in Paris’s 6th arrondissement. The site extends through the block to 93 rue du Cherche-Midi and includes a historic garden of about 4,000 square metres. The Visitation community acquired the property in 1819 and built the chapel after removing the former hunting pavilion’s service buildings. The chapel dates from the Restoration period, with construction beginning in 1821. The monastery later expanded with a girls’ boarding school and several utility buildings, reflecting the community’s long institutional presence on the site. The sisters transferred the former monastery to the Diocese of Paris, and the complex is now being transformed into the Maison de la Visitation, a solidarity-focused project involving shared housing and community facilities. The chapel is one of the historic structures scheduled for complete renovation. Construction began in 2025, and the wider project is expected to open in 2027. Because the site is currently part of an active construction and rehabilitation project, visitors should not assume that the chapel is operating as a regular public attraction.
