Hôtel de Saint-Florentin is an 18th-century hôtel particulier at 2 rue Saint-Florentin, beside Place de la Concorde in Paris’s 1st arrondissement. The building was commissioned for Louis Phélypeaux, comte de Saint-Florentin, and constructed between 1767 and 1769. Jean-François Chalgrin designed the building from plans by Ange-Jacques Gabriel, whose scheme also shaped the architectural setting around the former Place Louis-XV, now Place de la Concorde. The residence later became known as the Hôtel de Talleyrand. Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand acquired it in 1813 and lived there until his death in 1838. The staircase’s honour ceiling was painted by Jean-Simon Barthélémy in 1769. The French Ministry of Culture records the façades on rue Saint-Florentin, rue de Rivoli and the courtyard, together with statues in the courtyard niches, as protected since 12 February 1925. The United States has owned the property since 1950, and the heritage register identifies its current use as a consulate. Its historic associations with Saint-Florentin and Talleyrand make the exterior a notable architectural landmark around the Concorde district.
