About Musée de la Légion d'honneur

The Musée de la Légion d'honneur et des ordres de chevalerie occupies part of the Hôtel de Salm, on the parvis opposite the Musée d'Orsay. This national museum is devoted to French and international orders, honours and decorations. Its displays use about 5,000 objects and decorations from France and abroad, including insignia, paintings, costumes, weapons and other art objects. Interactive screens explain the current operation of France's national orders.

Regular public opening is Wednesday to Sunday from 13:00 to 18:00, with last entry at 17:30. Thursday has a late opening until 20:00, with last entry at 19:30. Monday and Tuesday have no regular public opening. Individual self-guided visits are free and do not require a reservation; groups must reserve. Check the live museum page before travelling because exceptional closures or altered hours can replace the weekly schedule.

The temporary exhibition “Du Courage à l'honneur” runs through 20 September 2026 and is included free during museum opening hours. Treat that date as a firm end point rather than a permanent display. The permanent collections remain the reason to visit after the exhibition closes.

Use the museum entrance at 2 rue de la Légion d'honneur, 75007 Paris. For reduced-mobility access, the operator specifically instructs visitors to report to reception staff at that address.
