About Energie-Museum Berlin

Energie-Museum Berlin is temporarily closed while the volunteer association undertakes a major move. The operator’s current tours page says it will announce when the museum resumes operations at a new location. Do not travel to the former Teltowkanalstraße 9 site or rely on older listings that describe visits by appointment or a last-Saturday express tour. No reopening date, new visitor address or current public opening schedule has been published.

The museum was founded on 10 May 2001 by thirty employees and retirees of the former Bewag electricity company. At its former Steglitz site, it occupied the building of what had once been the world’s largest battery storage installation. The collection interprets Berlin’s development as an “Electropolis” through power-plant technology, grid operation, new technologies, measurement, protection systems, communications, building services and public lighting. The museum and Berlin’s official museum listing describe more than 5,000 objects, including switchgear, transformers, measuring instruments and communications equipment, alongside an archive, library and database.

The association is run by volunteers. Its current board page asks all enquiries about tours and museum visits to be sent by email to [email protected] or through the website contact form. The former museum normally offered free admission with donations welcomed, but there is no visitor admission while operations are suspended. Check the operator’s tours page for a reopening announcement before planning any journey.
