All Saints Church is the ancient parish church of Kingston upon Thames, standing in the town’s Ancient Market Place opposite John Lewis. The site is associated with Kingston’s royal history: the church’s heritage account records a Great Council held here by King Egbert of Wessex in 838 and several Saxon royal coronations, including Athelstan’s in 925. The present church was built in the twelfth century, probably during the 1120s or 1130s, although the exact date remains disputed. Its original plan was cruciform, with a nave and central tower. Later rebuilding and restoration mean that little of the original fabric survives, but medieval stones remain visible in the building and the tower core dates from the early church. Visitors can follow a free self-guided trail explaining notable architectural features. All Saints remains an Anglican place of worship and hosts regular services, music and community events. It is in central Kingston, about five minutes on foot from Kingston station, making it a convenient heritage stop alongside the market and riverside.
