Abu Dhabi Airport: Bus, Taxi or Shuttle

For Abu Dhabi, use Zayed International Airport (AUH), the city’s main passenger airport. Etihad describes it as about 30 minutes by road from central Abu Dhabi and major attractions such as Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, and less than 20 minutes from Yas Island. The public bus is the lowest-cost city transfer. Stops are just outside Arrivals. A1 runs towards Al Zahiyah and the city centre through Al Reem Island and the Tourist Club Area; A2 heads towards Khalifa Street, Al Markaziyah and Al Khalidiya. An official airport taxi is the easiest door-to-door choice for central hotels, late arrivals or several bags. AUH says its taxis operate 24/7, are metered and include wheelchair-accessible and larger vehicles. Etihad publishes approximately 75 minutes from AUH to its Dubai stop at Al Wasl Centre and approximately 90 minutes to central Al Ain. Neither figure includes the onward journey from that named stop. For taxis, the operator publishes a meter formula rather than a fixed central-Abu-Dhabi time. The live fare and route depend on distance, waiting and traffic. Ride-hailing apps show a current estimate for the exact destination; use that complete address rather than an airport-area headline. The transport authority’s Hafilat page says local public-bus fares are AED 2, while regional fares are AED 2 plus 5 fils per kilometre. The airport’s own guide describes a one-way airport bus fare as typically around AED 4. You need a Hafilat card before boarding; cash is not accepted on the bus. The card page lists a card price of AED 10 and says airport sales or recharge machines are available. Airport taxis have no flat central-city price. Abu Dhabi Mobility lists an airport flagfall of AED 20, AED 1.82 per kilometre, AED 0.50 per minute of waiting and a booking fee of AED 4 from 06:00 to 22:00. The same starting charges are listed for a Vito airport taxi. AUH says fares can be paid by cash or card at the destination; Abu Dhabi Mobility also lists Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, PayBy and online card payment through its taxi app. Careem and Uber show their own live prices before you confirm. For a central address, compare A1 and A2 by their destination corridor rather than boarding the first bus with an airport label. A1’s published stops include Al Zahiyah and Al Danah; A2 continues through Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Bus Station and Al Danah. Official airport taxis have a simpler pattern: AUH says they are available 24/7. Careem and Uber are on-demand, with no airport-published waiting interval. Request after collecting luggage, follow the app to the designated zone and reject unsolicited offers inside the terminal. A late arrival has a published public-transport option because the airport says A-series buses operate around the clock. That statement covers the A-series network, not every route having the same headway or serving every neighbourhood. Ride-hailing is also available on demand, but AUH publishes no fixed waiting time; use the live Careem or Uber screen and meet the driver only in the designated collection zone. Etihad Shuttle is not an overnight fallback for a general Abu Dhabi arrival.
