Boston Logan Transfers: Silver Line, Bus and Taxi

Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) is Boston’s main scheduled passenger airport, 3–5 miles from downtown. Its four passenger terminals—A, B, C and E—are linked by Massport’s free airport shuttle. For central Boston, compare the free Silver Line SL1, the Blue Line, Logan Express and an official taxi. The SL1 leaves from every Logan terminal and runs directly to South Station. South Station connects with the Red Line, commuter rail and intercity trains, so SL1 is useful for Downtown, the Financial District, the Seaport and onward rail travel. The Blue Line begins at Airport Station, not at the terminal curbs. Take Massport’s free shuttle to Airport Station, then use the Blue Line for Government Center and connections to the Orange and Green lines. Massport’s Logan Express FAQ lists estimated airport-to-stop times, not guaranteed hotel journeys. Back Bay is 20–30 minutes; Braintree and Framingham are 35–45 minutes; Woburn is 25–35 minutes. The FAQ lists Peabody at 25–35 minutes, while the current timetable uses Danvers, so check the destination row before travelling. Traffic can extend each road journey. The Back Bay estimate ends at Back Bay Station or Prudential Center, not at your hotel. Add the walk, luggage handling and any MBTA connection. A passenger boarding at B, C or E should not plan around the printed Terminal A departure alone: Massport says the other terminals are served a few minutes later. Massport describes SL1 as a direct terminal service to South Station and the Blue Line as a station connection reached by free shuttle. It does not publish one fixed airport-to-hotel time for either route. The airport-to-city SL1 trip is free, and Massport’s terminal-to-Airport Station shuttle also costs nothing. Massport’s published Logan Express fare table lists $12 one way for a standard adult suburban ticket and $9 for an advance online e-ticket. Back Bay is separate: Logan to Back Bay is free, while Back Bay to Logan costs $3. Apply the $3 fare only to Back Bay, not to Braintree, Danvers, Framingham or Woburn. Massport does not publish one fixed taxi fare for every Boston address. The final price is set by the regulated meter and depends on destination and traffic. Back Bay Logan Express runs every 30 minutes from Back Bay between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. daily. From Logan, the published pattern is every 30 minutes between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. These are route patterns, so check the timetable before relying on a departure after a delayed flight. From Logan, Braintree, Framingham and Woburn show half-hour departures through much of the day and a final trip at 1:15 a.m. Danvers is hourly at quarter past the hour, with a final listed departure at 1:15 a.m. Woburn has separate weekday and weekend rows, so read its exact pattern rather than copying another route. Massport’s free airport shuttles generally run every five to six minutes. Routes 11, 22 and 33 are listed daily from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; Route 66 runs daily from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.; and Route 88 operates 24 hours. Braintree, Framingham and Woburn continue from Logan through midnight to a final 1:15 a.m. trip; Danvers runs hourly until 1:15 a.m. Back Bay ends earlier, with its last listed Logan departure at 10:00 p.m. These times belong to individual routes, not Logan Express as a whole. Taxis remain available at designated arrivals-level stands in all four passenger terminals, including late arrivals.
