Glasgow Airport (GLA) is the main airport for Glasgow, roughly 9 miles from the city centre. There is no railway station at Glasgow Airport. The nearest useful station is Paisley Gilmour Street, just over one mile from the terminal; McGill’s service 757 connects the airport with Paisley and other local destinations. Use this option when your onward ScotRail journey continues through Ayrshire or Inverclyde. The airport does not publish one combined airport-to-train travel time for the bus and rail connection. Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) is a separate airport in Ayrshire, about 30 miles from Glasgow. It has a railway station beside the terminal, reached by a short covered walkway, and a direct Stagecoach X77 bus to Buchanan Bus Station. Use Prestwick only if your flight arrives there; it is not a second terminal for a Glasgow Airport flight. A taxi is the direct door-to-door alternative at Glasgow Airport. The airport lists 180 white taxis outside the terminal and says pre-booking is not required. First Bus publishes 15 minutes from Glasgow Airport to central Glasgow on service 500. That is the airport-to-city leg, not a door-to-door hotel promise. Add baggage reclaim, the walk to Stance 1, traffic on the M8 and the final walk from Buchanan, Central or Queen Street to your accommodation. The Paisley route has no single fixed airport-to-Glasgow time published by the airport. Plan it as McGill’s 757 to Paisley Gilmour Street, followed by a ScotRail train, and check both operators for your destination. The station is just over one mile away, so the bus wait, luggage and the transfer between stops affect the total. Prestwick Airport publishes about 40 minutes by train to Glasgow Central and about 44 minutes by X77 bus to Buchanan Bus Station. The train begins beside the terminal; the bus stops outside the airport on the A79. Allow extra time for the final walk or city connection after reaching Glasgow. For a central address, the 500 avoids a change and serves several useful stops. Paisley rail access is more useful for a west- or southbound onward journey. First Bus publishes a £2 single for service 500. Buy through the First Bus app, online or from the driver with cash or contactless payment. The single covers one journey, so two £2 singles cover a return airport trip. Scottish U22 and over-60 concession passes are accepted; concession cards issued outside Scotland are not valid. The Subway does not reach Glasgow Airport. Use it after reaching a station by bus, train, taxi or on foot. First Bus describes service 500 as a 24-hour route, with buses up to every 10 minutes between Glasgow Airport Stance 1 and Buchanan Bus Station Stance 46. The published timetable shows a denser daytime pattern and wider overnight gaps, so “up to every 10 minutes” is the best published interval, not a promise for every departure. McGill’s 757 timetable shows Glasgow Airport departures from 05:45, frequent daytime services, and later listed departures at 20:45, 21:45 and 22:45. Prestwick Airport publishes two trains an hour to Glasgow Central. Its stated rail window is around 06:00 to 00:15, with Sunday trains from 09:00 to 23:00. For a late arrival at Glasgow Airport, start with service 500. First Bus publishes it as a 24-hour route and shows overnight departures in both directions, but the gaps are wider than during the day.
