Tokyo Airport Transfers: Rail, Bus and Taxi

Tokyo’s two principal passenger airports serve different arrival patterns. Haneda is roughly 15 km from central Tokyo. Narita International Airport is about 50–60 km from the centre, in Narita City, Chiba. Check your flight confirmation first, then follow the terminal-specific signs after baggage claim. Haneda has Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho and Keikyu Railway to Shinagawa. Hamamatsucho connects with JR lines; Keikyu trains continue through services towards Asakusa, Shibuya, Shinjuku and other destinations. Narita offers JR East’s Narita Express to Tokyo, Shinagawa, Shibuya and Shinjuku. Keisei Skyliner is a reserved-seat train to Nippori and Keisei-Ueno; Keisei also lists Access Express and Main Line routes for stations including Asakusa, Ueno and Shinagawa. Terminal 1 is about a five-minute walk from its station, Terminal 2 about five minutes from its station, and Terminal 3 about ten minutes. Buses suit hotel districts and luggage-heavy arrivals. Haneda lists services to Tokyo Station, Shinjuku, Shibuya and destinations across the region. Narita lists direct buses to Tokyo, Ginza, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ikebukuro, Asakusa, Roppongi, Haneda and other areas. Tokyo Monorail publishes 13 minutes from Haneda Airport to Hamamatsucho, 19 minutes to Tokyo Station, 30 minutes to Shibuya and 37 minutes to Shinjuku. These are rail-route figures to named stations. Keikyu publishes 14 minutes from Haneda to Shinagawa, 26 minutes to Shibuya, 33 minutes to Shinjuku, 37 minutes to Asakusa and 41 minutes to Oshiage. Haneda’s airport bus table estimates about 35 minutes to Tokyo Station and about 35 minutes to Shinjuku Station West Exit. The same table labels these as estimates; road traffic can lengthen them. Keisei describes Skyliner as a service from Narita to Nippori in as little as 36 minutes. JR East publishes 53 minutes as the fastest Narita Airport–Tokyo Station N’EX journey. Tokyo Monorail’s regular adult table lists ¥520 between Haneda Airport Terminal 3 and Hamamatsucho. The same table publishes child fares and lower IC-card prices for its listed journeys. Keisei currently lists the Narita Airport–Nippori or Keisei-Ueno Skyliner fare at ¥2,470 per adult or ¥1,240 per child. Tapping an eligible IC card at the gate is listed at ¥2,465 for an adult. JR East publishes the N’EX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket at ¥5,200 for adults and ¥2,600 for children aged 6–11. It allows round-trip use within 14 days for Tokyo, Shinagawa, Shibuya, Shinjuku and other listed areas. Ordinary one-way N’EX fares depend on the stations and seat product, so use JR East Train Reservation or a ticket office for the exact trip. TYO-NRT lists ¥1,500 for a regular adult one-way bus journey and ¥3,000 for late-night or early-morning service. Narita’s other bus routes have their own operator fares; the airport directs passengers to the relevant company. Haneda also directs travellers to the selected bus operator for the route fare. Tokyo Monorail publishes an average interval of five minutes between Haneda Airport and Hamamatsucho, with separate weekday and weekend-or-holiday timetable links. Haneda’s route search returns departure times and fares by terminal, station, hotel or facility. Use it when your final address is beyond Hamamatsucho. Keikyu provides separate timetable links for weekdays, Saturdays and holidays for Haneda Terminal 1·2 Station and Terminal 3 Station. Sunday is covered by the holiday timetable, but the exact departure depends on the terminal, direction and destination. Skyliner’s operator page states that the service runs three times each hour. Its timetable separates weekday and Saturday-or-holiday patterns; the published Saturday-or-holiday table shows airport departures from 07:30 through 23:00. Narita Airport says highway-bus passengers should buy before boarding at a counter or machine and contact the relevant bus company for the latest information. TYO-NRT publishes downloadable timetables for Tokyo Station, Ginza and Shinonome. Services are non-reserved, and the operator’s timetable should be used for the travel date rather than one assumed interval. Haneda lists late-night buses to Shinjuku and Ikebukuro at 00:20, 01:00, 01:40 and 02:20 from Terminal 3, with 00:10 from Terminal 1 and 00:05 from Terminal 2. A Terminal 3 bus to Yokohama Station and Sakuragicho is listed at 01:20. The airport says these services can change with flight schedules, so confirm with the operating company. For a late Haneda arrival, allow time for immigration, baggage collection and the walk to the bus stop or railway platform. Haneda sends travellers to Tokyo Monorail and Keikyu timetables for first and last trains rather than publishing one permanent value for every destination. Narita’s Saturday-or-holiday Skyliner table includes Sunday service, with airport departures shown from 07:30 through 23:00. TYO-NRT charges ¥3,000 for adult late-night and early-morning buses. For the last bus from Narita, the operator says to go directly to the stop and pay onboard with cash or a transport IC card; credit cards are not accepted. Sunday does not remove airport access: Tokyo Monorail publishes a weekend-and-holiday timetable, Keikyu a holiday timetable and Skyliner a Saturday-or-holiday timetable. Confirm the terminal, return direction and final JR, subway, bus or hotel connection in the operator’s planner before travelling. Haneda has ordinary taxi stands at the arrival level and dedicated stands for app-dispatched or reserved taxis. At Terminals 1 and 2, the reserved stands are on the second-floor departure level near Exit 7 and Exit 2. Haneda publishes fixed-fare taxi routes between the airport, Tokyo and Kanagawa for most areas. Highway tolls are extra, and some destinations use the meter. Narita publishes fixed fares by Tokyo zone: ¥23,500–¥38,500 before highway tolls, depending on the destination and road route. A late-night or early-morning surcharge applies from 22:00 to 05:00.
