Beijing Aquarium

Beijing Aquarium is a large public aquarium located within the Beijing Zoo complex in the Xicheng District. Its local name is 北京海洋馆. The facility opened to complement the zoo's existing animal collections with marine and freshwater exhibits. It occupies a substantial building and has become one of the notable visitor attractions in China's capital. The aquarium serves educational and recreational purposes, displaying aquatic species from various global habitats. Its position within the zoo grounds means visitors often combine both destinations. The aquarium opens 09:00-17:30 from April through October, with last entry at 17:00.

Beijing Aquarium is a large indoor aquatic attraction on the north side of Beijing Zoo, with themed freshwater and marine displays, broad viewing windows, underwater-style circulation and scheduled performance areas. The operator sells a current aquarium-only product, so visitors should not infer that a zoo or Panda House route is included. Lifts, accessible toilets and seating support the main public circuit, while performance seating and crowd routing can be controlled separately. Allow three to four hours for the aquarium, including large tanks and any scheduled performance chosen on arrival. Last entry is 17:00 in peak season, only thirty minutes before closing, and is too late for a meaningful circuit. Morning provides the most flexibility around show times and crowds.

Arrive early enough to complete security, identity checks and the main route before final admission. Weekends, school holidays and special events increase crowds or alter individual galleries. Current daytime adult admission is CNY 160 and excludes Beijing Zoo and Panda House. Concession admission is CNY 115; infants under age three or no taller than one metre enter free within the adult-accompaniment limit. Use the official reservation or ticket channel and carry the identity document connected to the booking. Free admission does not remove real-name, capacity or security requirements. Standard entry excludes separately priced theatres, simulators, screenings, performances, food and commercial services unless the selected product explicitly includes them. Retain the QR code or ticket through the visit and use only authorised sales channels.

The aquarium is at 6 Qixiang Road on the north side of Beijing Zoo. Use Beijing Zoo station on Line 4 for the zoo route or National Library station for the northwest side. Allow time for the final walk, security gate or local road segment. Use the complete Chinese venue name and branch address in taxi or ride-hailing apps, because several institutions have multiple sites or sit inside larger precincts. The large indoor aquarium provides lift-served routes, accessible toilets, seating and disability services. Individual performance seating and crowd routes can be controlled separately. Follow staff instructions and the designated accessible route; do not cross barriers, climb exhibits or enter controlled technical areas. Crowds can narrow otherwise broad circulation. Keep identification and reservations ready, use lifts instead of escalators with mobility devices, and treat theatre, simulator, aircraft-interior and preserved-vehicle access as separate from the main step-free route.

Aquarium photography requires patience with low light and reflective glass. Turn off flash because it disturbs animals, creates glare and can breach posted exhibit rules. Hold the lens near—but never against—the viewing panel, reduce screen brightness and keep moving when other visitors are waiting. Tripods and lighting obstruct the broad accessible route and require permission. Performance areas can impose separate recording rules, and staff directions take priority. Personal images are suitable in permitted zones; commercial filming, staged shoots and equipment that affects animal welfare or visitor circulation need operator approval.
