Fragrant Hills Park is a historic imperial garden and public park in the Haidian District of northwestern Beijing. The park is widely recognized as one of Beijing's notable visitor destinations, particularly celebrated for autumn foliage viewing when the smoke tree leaves turn red across the slopes. Fragrant Hills Park is a steep imperial mountain garden whose routes climb from the east-gate precinct toward Incense Burner Peak. Lower areas contain historic garden architecture, visitor centres and Biyun Temple, which uses a separate ticket. Mountain paths pass wooded slopes, seasonal foliage viewpoints and summit routes. The east and north gates have visitor services and toilets, while food outlets are limited. The Xijiao line terminus and city buses serve the east-gate approach, but no transport removes every climb inside the park. The complete ascent to the summit and return journey on foot typically requires several hours of steady walking. The extensive trail network permits flexible itinerary planning from brief excursions to full-day engagements with the landscape and structures. Only partially. OPEN The summit and long mountain routes require half a day. Lower gardens and Biyun Temple create a shorter visit for travellers avoiding steep climbs. Use the named station exit, gate or stop because the broader district pin may lead to an event entrance, service road or inaccessible approach. The autumn red-leaf season, especially weekend mornings, brings the heaviest crowds and transport queues.
