Stanley Mosque is the 1936–1937 mosque at 53 Tung Tau Wan Road inside the restricted area of Stanley Prison. It is not a walk-in attraction. The mosque was built after Muslim employees of the former Prisons Department requested a place for daily prayer near the new prison complex. It opened on 1 January 1937 and remains in religious use, mainly serving Muslim Correctional Services Department officers.

The official heritage appraisal describes a T-shaped building facing Mecca, with an open forecourt, a prayer hall lit by fourteen arched windows, and a verandah raised above the forecourt by continuous steps. Stanley Mosque was confirmed as a Grade 1 historic building on 18 December 2009. A June 2026 Antiquities Advisory Board meeting considered its proposed declaration as a monument; the confirmed Grade 1 status remains the safe description until a gazetted declaration is identified.

Visitor access requires advance permission. The Hong Kong Government states that members of the public wishing to use the mosque may apply to the Correctional Services Department in advance. The Islamic trustees say CSD permits use especially on Fridays and special occasions by Muslims who are not staff. That is permission for religious use, not a public sightseeing timetable. No seven-day visitor hours, admission price or walk-up process is published. Do not enter the correctional grounds without approval. The trustee page lists [email protected] for the mosque.

Official transport information lists buses 6, 6X and 260 from Central and green minibuses 40 and 40X from Causeway Bay to the Stanley Prison area. Reaching the public-road stop does not grant access to the mosque. The heritage appraisal records continuous entrance steps, and no approved public step-free route or visitor toilet arrangement is published for mosque visits. Ask CSD about security screening and access support before travelling.
