Prieuré Saint-Benoît is a Benedictine priory and spiritual retreat on Montmartre, directly behind the Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur in Paris’s 18th arrondissement. The present building at 3, 5 and 7 Cité du Sacré-Cœur was constructed in 1914 as a retreat house; the Benedictines of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre moved into the property in 1984. The chapel is the centre of the priory, used for Mass, the Divine Office and Eucharistic adoration. Visitors may come to pray in the chapel, join the community’s prayer, or arrange a retreat lasting one or more days. The priory also welcomes students seeking a quiet place to revise for examinations. Its accommodation includes 35 single or double rooms with 55 beds, separate from the guesthouse operated by the Sacré-Cœur basilica. The site is reached through the entrance at 40 Rue du Chevalier de La Barre, leading to Cité du Sacré-Cœur. Its Montmartre setting places the priory beside one of Paris’s most visited religious landmarks, while the community’s purpose remains prayer, hospitality and spiritual retreat.
