About square Lamartine

Square Lamartine is a municipal garden in Paris’s 16th arrondissement, at 3 square Lamartine, with entrances from avenue Victor-Hugo and avenue Henri-Martin. The City of Paris lists a children’s play area, a climbing wall, exercise equipment and drinking-water points. The exercise equipment stands beside an artesian well drilled in 1861, originally used to supply rivers and lakes in the Bois de Boulogne. The city marks the garden as accessible to people with reduced mobility, while warning that access is limited to certain areas. It records no toilets, Wi-Fi, changing table, drinks machine or defibrillator, and animals are not admitted.

The garden commemorates poet Alphonse de Lamartine, who lived for a time in a chalet on neighbouring avenue Henri-Martin. Its current stone statue was made by Paul Niclausse in 1951, replacing an earlier bronze by Anatole Marquet de Vasselot that was melted down during the Occupation in 1942. The garden also contains a memorial to very young Jewish children from the 16th arrondissement who died in deportation. For 1–30 September 2026, the official schedule opens Monday through Friday at 08:00 and Saturday and Sunday at 09:00, closing daily at 19:30. Hours vary by period, so check the city page for the date of your visit.
