About square Tolstoï

Square Tolstoï is a public garden in Paris’s 16th arrondissement, beside the Bois de Boulogne. Created in 1934, the square is named after the Russian novelist and moralist Leo Tolstoy. A bust of Tolstoy by sculptor Akop Gurdjan was installed here in 1955. The garden also contains a fountain topped by a woman-and-child sculpture by Charles Cassou, created in 1934. Its planting includes a Ginkgo biloba, red-flowering horse chestnuts and climbing roses. The Paris city authority lists a children’s playground, sandbox and drinking-water points on site. A recreational area immediately west of the square adds a table-tennis table, two chess tables and outdoor exercise equipment. The square has entrances from boulevard Suchet, avenue du Maréchal-Lyautey and avenue du Maréchal-Franchet-d’Espérey. Paris’s official listing records access as available around the clock, making Square Tolstoï a compact green stop for exploring Auteuil and western Paris.
