Tunnel des Tuileries is a former road tunnel on Paris’s right bank of the Seine, beside the Louvre and the Tuileries Garden. It opened in 1967 as part of the Voie Georges-Pompidou and carried one-way traffic under the quays. After the riverside road was closed to motor traffic, the tunnel became part of the pedestrian and cycling route along the Seine. The tunnel is about 861 metres long and runs between the Quai des Tuileries and the former Quai Aimé-Césaire, now associated with the riverside promenade. In 2022, the interior was transformed with colourful lighting and large street-art murals, giving the infrastructure an art-and-culture character as well as a transport function. Its location makes it a useful route between the Louvre area, the Tuileries Garden and the Seine-side Parc Rives de Seine. The City of Paris announced a temporary full closure to pedestrians and cyclists from 30 August at 22:30 until 2 September 2026 at 12:00 for Paris Plages dismantling; check current municipal notices before visiting.
