Getty's official visitor map identifies paintings galleries across the pavilions, outdoor terraces, architecture and garden areas. The permanent collection can be combined with temporary exhibitions, but changing displays may have their own entry conditions or restrictions. Start with one pavilion or collection interest, then use the map to connect it with the central outdoor spaces. Avoid attempting every gallery as a checklist; the Getty Center is a campus whose art, views and architecture reward a selective route.

Allow three to four hours for a focused Getty Center visit, longer when you add a changing exhibition, garden time, a meal or detailed collection viewing. This is editorial itinerary guidance rather than an operator-issued duration. The official map shows several gallery pavilions and outdoor spaces, so the site is not well suited to a rushed stop between fixed appointments. Tuesday–Friday and Sunday 10:00 AM–6:30 PM; Saturday 10:00 AM–9:00 PM; Monday closed. General admission is free for adults and all other visitors. A timed-entry reservation is required; parking is charged separately. Getty states that museum admission is free, but its official ticket system requires a free advance timed ticket for Getty Center visits. A Getty Center ticket does not automatically cover the separately located Getty Villa. Reserve only through the official system, keep the confirmation available, and confirm the correct campus before travel. Metro bus line 761 stops at the Getty Center entrance at Getty Center Drive and Sepulveda Boulevard. Drivers should use the only public entrance at N Sepulveda Boulevard and Getty Center Drive rather than relying on the street address alone. Taxis use the P1 taxi stop; Lyft, Uber, and other vehicles carrying no more than 15 passengers use the designated turnaround outside the parking structure. From the lower arrival area, visitors take the Getty tram to the hilltop Arrival Plaza. Getty Center is at 1200 Getty Center Drive in Los Angeles. The official map describes arrival, parking and the campus layout; use the current Getty directions rather than navigating only to an image or a collection-building label. Allow extra time for the approach from central Los Angeles, entry and movement up to the museum campus.

The Getty Center is ADA accessible to all visitors. The hilltop tram is wheelchair accessible; wheelchair users should board an end car. An elevator connects the parking structure to level T1, where the tram station is approximately 20 level feet from the elevator doors. Elevators serve the site’s principal public levels and museum pavilions. Accessible parking is available on the Main Parking Structure’s entry level on a first-come, first-served basis. Standard wheelchairs are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis at the Lower Tram Station and Museum Entrance Hall Coat Check. All public restrooms have accessible facilities. The official Getty map says bags may be inspected and that bags, backpacks, umbrellas and packages larger than 11 by 17 by 8 inches must be checked at the Coat and Parcel Check. Plan for that process before a timed exhibition or restaurant booking.

Getty permits handheld-device photography and video using existing light outdoors and in permanent-collection galleries, according to its official visitor map. It says to check entrances to changing exhibitions for restrictions; selfie sticks are allowed outdoors only, while tripods, monopods and drones are not permitted. Keep photography secondary to gallery circulation and other visitors' viewing space. The building's travertine, terrace views and gallery sequence provide strong subjects without requiring equipment that the official policy excludes.
