Taipei Airport Transfers: MRT, Bus and Taxi

Taipei has two airports. Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) is outside the city; Taipei’s tourism authority estimates a 35–45-minute drive to central Taipei. From TPE, Airport MRT Express trains stop at A1 Taipei Main Station, A3 New Taipei Industrial Park, A8 Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and both airport terminals. Commuter trains stop at every station. A1 connects with Taiwan Railways, High Speed Rail, Taipei Metro and Taipei Bus Station, but the transfer includes a walk through the underground complex. Airport buses provide direct road links: Kuo-Kuang route 1819 connects Taipei Bus Station with TPE; Dayou route 1960 connects Taipei City Hall Bus Station with both terminals. At TSA, the Songshan Airport MRT station is on Taipei Metro’s Wenhu Line. City buses and taxi service are also listed by the airport. For a hotel away from the line, luggage or a late arrival, a taxi or ride app avoids an extra transfer. (Songshan Airport transport; Taipei Metro Wenhu Line)

Taoyuan Airport MRT Express takes 35 minutes from T1 and 38 minutes from T2 to Taipei Main Station; the all-stations commuter train takes about 50 minutes from T1. These are station-to-station times. Add immigration, baggage, the walk to A12/A13 and your onward trip from A1. The operator says schedules are reference information and can change with operating conditions. Express trains stop at A1, A3, A8, A12 and A13; commuter trains stop at every station. A hotel near A3 or A8 may be better served by an express stop than by A1. Elsewhere, allow for the onward Metro, railway, bus or taxi after reaching Taipei Main Station. Taoyuan Metro publishes roughly 15-minute intervals for both service types in its standard pattern. Buses run through road traffic. Route 1819 ends at Taipei Bus Station; route 1960 serves Taipei City Hall Bus Station. The tourism authority estimates bus journeys from Taoyuan Airport to Taipei at about 50 minutes, excluding the wait and final connection. Do not treat that as a hotel-arrival guarantee. The full Taoyuan Airport MRT journey between A1 Taipei Main Station and the airport costs NT$160. A Taoyuan Metro One Day Pass costs NT$320 for unlimited Taoyuan Airport MRT rides from first use until the end of that day; it is not a rolling 24-hour pass and does not cover Taipei Metro. Taipei Metro charges by distance. Its published adult single-journey range is NT$20–NT$65, so a TSA fare depends on the destination station. Check the fare calculator or ticket machine for the actual trip. (Taipei Metro single-journey fares)

Taoyuan Metro’s joint products combine two Airport MRT rides with either a 48-hour Taipei Metro pass for NT$520 or a 72-hour pass for NT$600. The Taipei Metro portion begins at first entry and permits unlimited rides during its consecutive validity window; it is separate from the two Taoyuan Metro rides. At TPE, Taoyuan Metro publishes terminal-specific first and last trains. From T2 toward Taipei Main Station, Express trains run 05:55–22:55 and commuter trains 06:04–23:35. For route 1819, Taiwan Bus provides a live route page and a date-selectable timetable; it does not make a snapshot for another travel date a guarantee. Dayou’s route 1960 also uses a date-specific schedule and booking option. Check the selected terminal, stop and direction in the official system before travelling. Songshan Airport lists airport operation from 05:00 to 23:00. Taipei Metro’s Wenhu Line publishes service from 06:00 to 24:00, but the final train for a particular destination can be earlier. Route 1819’s live Taiwan Bus page includes a timetable lookup and real-time status. Its static timetable shows overnight service, but the departure list is date- and direction-specific; choose the current T1/T2 stop and date instead of relying on a saved May timetable. Dayou route 1960 provides a date-specific schedule and a reservation option. Its summary does not establish one interval for every departure. If one particular bus matters, select the city stop or terminal and travel date in its current route result. (Dayou route 1960)

Taoyuan Airport MRT operates on Sundays in its published timetable, but individual departures depend on train type, station and direction. T2’s last train toward Taipei Main Station is listed at 22:55 for Express and 23:35 for commuter service. T1 has a separate A12 schedule. Songshan Airport lists operation from 05:00 to 23:00, while the Wenhu Line runs from 06:00 to 24:00. This difference does not guarantee a useful final connection after an evening flight. For a Sunday departure from TPE, check the first train or bus for your date and allow the airline’s required check-in buffer. If no published departure gives enough time, arrange an authorised taxi.
