Venice Airport Transfers: Bus, Boat or Taxi

Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) is 14 km from the city centre. ACTV line 5 and ATVO’s Venezia Express connect the airport with Piazzale Roma; line 15 and ATVO’s Mestre Express serve Venezia Mestre. Piazzale Roma is the road gateway to the historic islands. Santa Lucia railway station is a five-minute walk across the Calatrava Bridge. Alilaguna water buses run from the airport dock into the lagoon. The Blue Line connects Murano, Lido, Fondamenta Nove, San Marco and Santa Lucia station. The Orange Line serves Guglie, Rialto and Santa Maria del Giglio among its stops. Red is seasonal from April to November and serves Murano, Lido, Fondamenta Nove and San Marco. Treviso Antonio Canova Airport (TSF) is another airport for Venice. ATVO serves Piazzale Roma; Barzi Service serves Tronchetto and Mestre. MOM buses connect TSF to Treviso Centrale, where you can continue by train to Santa Lucia. Check the exact destination when booking. Choose the stop by the final address, not only by the airport journey. Piazzale Roma is convenient for a short walk to Santa Lucia, while a lagoon boat can reduce a transfer for hotels near its listed pier. If your hotel is inland or on the mainland, a bus to Mestre may avoid travelling through the historic centre first.

Venice Airport’s 2026 service guide gives about 25–30 minutes by bus to Piazzale Roma and 20–25 minutes to Venezia Mestre. Treat these as airport-to-stop estimates, not hotel arrival times. Alilaguna publishes separate stop lists and timetables for each line, not one universal boat journey time. Match Blue, Orange or Red to the area of your accommodation; Santa Lucia, Rialto and San Marco have different final walks. For Treviso, direct ATVO and Barzi services have separate stops, while the MOM-to-train route requires a connection at Treviso Centrale. Before buying, check whether your accommodation is reachable directly from the chosen stop. Venice’s historic centre has pedestrian bridges and canals, so the last part of the trip may involve walking or another boat even after you reach the city.

ACTV’s Aerobus ticket for journeys to or from Marco Polo costs €10 and is valid for 75 minutes. A return product is €18. The ordinary €1.50 land-transport ticket excludes the airport; a €18 Aerobus-plus-urban-network product includes the airport leg and named urban network for 90 minutes, excluding Alilaguna. Alilaguna lists Airport–Venice at €18 one way or €32 return. One heavy bag and one hand-luggage item are included; each additional bag costs €4. Children under six travel free with a ticketed adult and proof of age. Venice Airport’s service guide says to ask airport taxi staff for the fare before boarding. The airport page also lists private water taxis but publishes no universal price to every island address. ACTV publishes separate weekday and holiday tables for line 5. The airport-linked PDF is labelled “Inverno 2026” but its cover does not state an effective date. If no scheduled bus or boat matches your flight, compare an authorised taxi or private transfer. The Venice airport lists road taxis at the terminal and private water taxis at the dock. At Marco Polo, road taxis provided by Cooperativa Artigiana Radiotaxi wait outside the terminal exit on the ground floor. Venice Airport advises passengers to ask staff for the fare before boarding.
