About square Léon

Square Léon is a municipal garden in Paris’s 18th arrondissement, at 20 rue des Gardes in the Goutte d’Or area. The square occupies part of the former Passage Léon site, where demolitions in the 1970s created a small adventure playground known locally as “la démole”. After earlier changes failed to meet residents’ expectations, the 18th arrondissement began a new consultation process; new landscaping directions were developed in 2003 with an architect-urbanist, a geographer-demographer and a sociologist. Today the garden provides a children’s play area, swings, a basketball court, football and pétanque areas, table-tennis tables, chess and draughts tables, exercise equipment, a drinking-water point and a misting device. The City of Paris lists the square as accessible, with accessibility described as limited to some areas for wheelchair users. Château Rouge is the nearest listed Métro access point, and a Vélib’ station is 86 metres away.
