Athens War Museum is the Hellenic Armed Forces’ museum of military history, opened in Athens in 1975. Its purpose is to collect, preserve and present war relics, memorabilia and works of art connected with the military history of the Greeks, while documenting the country’s conflicts from antiquity to the present.

The museum stands at Rizari 2–4, where Vasilissis Sofias Avenue meets Rizari Street, beside the Byzantine and Christian Museum. Its permanent exhibition is arranged across four levels. Displays cover prehistoric and ancient warfare, Alexander the Great, Byzantium, Ottoman-era rule and the Greek Revolution of 1821, then continue through the Balkan Wars, the First World War, the Asia Minor Campaign, the Greco-Italian War of 1940–41 and the Second World War. Other sections address Greek military activity in North Africa, the Middle East, Korea and Cyprus.

The ground-floor Saroglou collection presents defensive, edged and firearms from Asia, Africa and the Pacific, alongside weapons and ignition mechanisms used in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and supports research, study, education, conservation and preservation.
