Dubai Frame

Dubai Frame is a picture frame built at architectural scale in Zabeel Park, and it is run by Dubai Municipality rather than by a commercial operator. The structure is 150 metres high and 95 metres wide: two gold-clad vertical shafts carrying lifts, joined at the top by a horizontal bridge that visitors walk across. The frame is aimed so that each side of the walkway looks out on one of them. The building is worth a few numbers. Daily 08:00–21:00. Open year-round, including weekends and public holidays; there are no scheduled weekly closure days. Timings may vary during Ramadan and holiday periods.

The visit is a fixed route in three parts, and a visitor cannot skip a stage or double back through it. It begins on the mezzanine with the Old Dubai Gallery, a multimedia exhibition that charts the city's change from a fishing village to a modern metropolis, using audio, visual and sensory effects and taking in Emirati heritage along the way. It is a walk-through, not a collection of objects. Open year-round, including weekends and public holidays; there are no scheduled weekly closure days. Dubai Municipality does not publish a recommended length of visit, so the figure below is an estimate rather than a quoted fact. Allow about ninety minutes from the ticket gate to the exit. The parts that consume that time are predictable. The Old Dubai Gallery is a walk-through exhibition rather than a room to browse, and twenty minutes covers it at a reasonable pace. The lift itself takes 75 seconds. Two things extend the visit beyond the exhibition time. General adult admission is AED 50. Children aged 3–12 pay AED 20. Children under 3 and people with disabilities accompanied by up to two companions enter free.

Dubai Frame opens every day of the year, weekends and public holidays included, from 08:00 to 21:00. There is no weekly closing day. Within that window the choice is between light and heat. Admission is charged per person. An adult pays AED 50 and a child aged 3 to 12 pays AED 20. Infants under three enter free. Tickets can be bought at the main park entrance, on the Dubai Frame website or through the Dubai Frame app. Advance purchase is recommended rather than required, and the operator singles out weekends. Dubai Frame stands inside Zabeel Park and is entered through the park's Gate 4. A car is not needed. Dubai Municipality publishes a short list of rules and most of them affect what a visitor can carry. No food or drink may be brought inside. Personal handbags and purses are allowed, but shopping bags, sports bags and backpacks must go into the secure baggage check room, and large bags and pushchairs are left at the Gate 4 counter. The operator describes the attraction’s layouts, facilities, service centres and counters as accessible to people with disabilities. Accessible restrooms and service counters are available. Dubai Municipality also lists dedicated accessible parking, voice-enabled assistance, tactile Braille maps and wheelchair-charging stations.

The operator does list taking photographs of the city among the reasons to come, and hand-held photography on the bridge is plainly normal. Two problems dominate. The first is glass: the bridge is enclosed and the panels are large, so a lens pressed close to the glass, a hand cupped against it, or a dark jacket used to block the reflection are all worth more than any camera setting. The second is direction. Dubai Municipality also lists dedicated accessible parking, voice-enabled assistance, tactile Braille maps and wheelchair-charging stations. Advance booking is strongly recommended, especially for weekend visits.
