Isleworth Ait is a small, wooded island in the tidal River Thames at Isleworth in west London. The four-hectare site is managed as a London Wildlife Trust nature reserve and forms one of the remaining areas of natural tidal marginal habitat on this stretch of the river. Regular inundation has shaped its woodland and wetland environment. The reserve supports birds including kingfishers, grey herons, treecreepers and great crested grebes, as well as rare molluscs and beetles. Isleworth Ait was historically associated with the Syon Park Estate and with osier production, using willow for basket-making. The island is not normally open for casual public access. The best views are from Church Street in Isleworth and sections of the Thames Path near the London Apprentice and Town Wharf pubs. Organised boat visits and volunteering sessions provide the main opportunities to land on the island. Dogs are not permitted.
