This guide is part of our Jerusalem destination coverage. Jerusalem
Choose the route by your Jerusalem endpoint
Write down the hotel entrance or Old City gate before choosing airport transport. Terminal 1 resumed domestic flights on 28 June 2026 and international departures on 1 July. International arrivals remain at Terminal 3; some airlines use both terminals. Confirm the terminal for your flight.
For a public journey, the train goes to Jerusalem–Yitzhak Navon beside the International Convention Center and Central Bus Station. It is a western-city arrival point. Compare the onward connection from Navon with your address before buying the airport leg. Bus 485 is another scheduled road link; IAA places its airport stop at Terminal 3, Level 2, Exit 21, with detailed departures delegated to Afikim. Check its Jerusalem arrival stop against the hotel, not only its route name.
A licensed airport taxi is the direct-address choice when a public last leg does not fit. At Terminal 3, IAA locates the official stand on the ground floor by Gate 03 and lists 24-hour, meter-only service. Luggage or a group may influence your choice, but no address is inherently served faster. Give the exact hotel destination and ask to be taken to its entrance; “Jerusalem” alone does not identify the end of your trip.

Build a timetable that ends at the hotel
The train planner measures the Ben Gurion Airport–Jerusalem–Yitzhak Navon leg, not the final part of a Jerusalem arrival. Add airport arrivals formalities, baggage, the platform wait and the local trip from Navon separately. Israel Railways provides date-specific train results; IAA does not publish one fixed airport-to-hotel duration. The last segment differs between a hotel near the Central Bus Station and an address reached via an Old City gate.
For accommodation by Mamilla or Jaffa Gate, check a light-rail approach through City Hall at Safra Square and the remaining walk to the actual entrance. For the Muslim Quarter or its northern market approach, check Damascus Gate. These are different arrival choices after the same airport train. A German Colony or Ein Karem hotel needs an address-specific local route rather than either gate instruction. Cfir’s current map shows the tram corridor; the operator’s service updates decide whether it works at the time you travel.
For Bus 485, check its selected Jerusalem stop first, then the connection to the hotel. The airport’s route listing supplies no fixed total time for that address. A metered taxi removes the local vehicle change but traffic and destination prevent a guaranteed arrival minute. Compare complete itineraries rather than a train result, a bus label or a road estimate considered in isolation.
Before choosing a connection from Navon, compare the hotel address with the gate named in its arrival instructions. A booking described simply as near the Old City could still be approached from different sides. City Hall serves the documented Jaffa Gate side; Damascus Gate serves the northern market and Muslim Quarter approach. If neither describes the entrance, search the precise address instead of following a gate label. This keeps the final segment tied to the place where you will actually check in.

Include the city connection in your fare decision
Enter Ben Gurion Airport and Jerusalem–Yitzhak Navon in Israel Railways’ live fare tool for the correct date and passenger profile. Fares are set by law and the Ministry of Transport. Mobile app and Rav-Kav payment are available; eligible Rav-Kav profiles may have discounts, so check the entitlement for your passenger.
The comparison for a hotel near Mamilla, Jaffa Gate or Damascus Gate does not stop at the Navon ticket. If the chosen approach requires the Cfir light rail, another local service or a taxi, check that cost independently. City Hall and Damascus Gate are useful for different entrances; the airport train fare alone says nothing about the second ride.
Bus 485 has a different tariff. IAA lists the line but no fixed Jerusalem fare and sends travellers to Afikim for details. Check the live route and passenger category there, or ask the operator or national information centre if a fare is not displayed. Its final cost depends on the actual trip, so compare it with the public journey to your door, not simply with the airport-to-Navon ticket.

Check the onward city service before leaving the airport
Search the airport-to-Navon train for the date and time you will reach the platform after arrival formalities. Israel Railways supplies live results rather than one permanent airport timetable. IAA lists railway information at *5770 and 03-5774000. If a public route leaves you at Navon, also check the Cfir connection toward the part of Jerusalem where you will sleep. A train that operates is not by itself proof that the last local service you need will operate at your arrival time.
For Bus 485, IAA publishes the Terminal 3 boarding location but not a permanent first trip, last trip or interval. Afikim provides the detailed schedule. Search the direction and date, then read the Jerusalem stop for the service you would actually catch. If that stop requires another city ride, check its operating status before committing to the bus.
The free airport shuttle is only for terminals and long-term car park 15. IAA lists 24-hour daily service, planned departures about every 15 minutes and waits not exceeding 20 minutes.

Test the whole arrival on Friday, Saturday or Sunday
For a Friday arrival, search the exact date before relying on rail. Israel Railways’ September 2026 notice says services end around 15:00–16:00 on Friday and resume around 21:00 on Saturday evening; the precise time changes with date and season. Check Bus 485 on the same arrival date.
Search Sunday afresh instead of carrying Saturday’s interruption forward. Verify the airport train, Bus 485 and the city connection for that Sunday. Holiday exceptions can also alter service. Look up the route to the gate or hotel entrance you need, then decide whether the public sequence remains workable.
For the return flight, work backward from the terminal and check departure from Jerusalem–Yitzhak Navon or the relevant bus stop.
For an Old City stay, decide the last city stop while planning the airport departure. After a late arrival or a changed service day, the useful question is whether you can still reach the hotel entrance from Navon or the bus stop. Recheck the City Hall or Damascus Gate leg as appropriate. If that local sequence is unavailable, compare the official taxi to the address rather than assuming the airport train’s Jerusalem endpoint completes the trip.

Use the gate that serves your Old City address
Jerusalem–Yitzhak Navon is beside the Central Bus Station, outside the Old City. The Cfir light-rail map places Central Station, City Hall and Damascus Gate on one corridor. Coming from the central station area, City Hall precedes Damascus Gate. Check the live map and service notices rather than treating Jerusalem as one stop. The chosen tram stop should match the side of the Old City where the accommodation entrance or first visit lies.
For a Mamilla-side hotel or Jaffa Gate approach, consider City Hall at Safra Square. Jerusalem’s visitor guide gives a 10–15 minute walk from that stop to Jaffa Gate and five minutes to New Gate, and links Mamilla Avenue with access to Jaffa Gate. These figures describe those approaches, not the walk to every hotel. Check the hotel’s actual entrance before deciding where to alight, especially if arriving with luggage.
For the Muslim Quarter or the market outside its northern entrance, Damascus Gate is the corresponding stop. The visitor guide describes the market as steps from that gate. Cfir places Damascus Gate beyond City Hall on the same line. No new ride time or fare is claimed; use the current operator journey result. If a last transfer or walk does not suit your party, compare a licensed taxi to the specific hotel entrance. That is an address-based choice, not a promise about accessibility or a faster journey.
