Garrison Church, also known as Holy Trinity Anglican Church, stands at the corner of Argyle Street and Lower Fort Street in Millers Point, beside Argyle Place. The church was built between 1840 and 1846 from locally quarried sandstone, with later work contributing to the present heritage precinct. Its foundation was associated with the Church Act of 1836, and the building became known as the Garrison Church through its connections with military personnel stationed near Dawes Point Battery. The site includes the church, parish hall and surrounding historic setting, including the public reserve of Argyle Place. Heritage records identify the church as one of New South Wales’ earliest surviving ecclesiastical structures and note its Gothic Revival design by Henry Ginn and Edmund T. Blacket. It remains an active Anglican place of worship connected with Church Hill Anglican and St Philip’s Church. The church’s position north of Observatory Hill makes it a useful stop during a walk through Millers Point, The Rocks and Sydney’s early harbour-side precincts.
