Schloss Alterlaa, also known as Schloss Erlaa, is a historic castle in Vienna’s 23rd district, Liesing. The Erlaa seat was first documented in 1244, and the estate had developed into a substantial four-winged castle by the 17th century. The castle chapel was consecrated in 1726. Georg Adam von Starhemberg acquired the property in 1765, and the complex was remodelled between 1766 and 1770, probably following plans by court architect Nikolaus Pacassi. This work gave the building its late-Baroque and early Neoclassical character and established the Schlosspark. The estate later became connected with Jérôme Bonaparte, Napoleon’s younger brother, who acquired Alterlaa in 1817 before moving to Schönau. A further rebuilding in 1919–20 removed the front wing and chapel and created the present courtyard arrangement and street wall. The two-storey main building retains historic vaults, Rococo wood panelling and a hipped roof. Schloss Alterlaa stands at Erlaaer Straße 54 beside the modern Wohnpark Alt-Erlaa, and its protected chestnut avenue follows today’s Gregorygasse.
