Schloss Essling is a surviving castle complex in Vienna’s Donaustadt district. The City of Vienna traces a resident noble family here to 1286, records a new castle by 1672, and notes that the property was remodelled under the Kinsky family in the eighteenth century before passing to the Habsburgs in 1760. Revitalisation began in 1988. The city’s heritage entry documents the exterior historic site but does not publish general visitor hours for the castle interior.

Do not confuse Schloss Essling with the nearby Esslinger Schüttkasten in Simonsgasse. That separate eighteenth-century granary was fought over during the 1809 battles of Aspern and Essling and now holds part of the Museum Aspern-Essling 1809 collection. Its centrepiece is a battle diorama with about 8,500 figures, landscapes, buildings, lighting and sound effects. The museum operator states that the Schüttkasten is privately owned and is not one of the Vienna district-museum association’s formal museum sites. The City of Vienna lists seasonal Sunday access from April to October, 10:00–12:00, plus special tours by request; those times concern the museum displays in the granary, not automatic access to Schloss Essling.
