Tianma Mountain, or Tianma Shan, is a wooded hill in Sheshan Town, Songjiang District, western Shanghai. Formerly called Gan Mountain, it reaches 98.2 metres and is described as the highest point in Shanghai’s land area. The hill lies about 5 kilometres southwest of Sheshan and 11 kilometres from central Songjiang. It forms part of the Sheshan National Forest Park landscape and belongs to the group known as the Nine Peaks of Songjiang. The forested slopes include bamboo groves and bird habitat, while the summit area combines natural scenery with historic remains. Notable sights include Huzhu Pagoda, the sites of Zhongfeng Temple and Shangfeng Temple, the Three Scholars Memorial Garden, an old ginkgo tree, and a bronze Guanyin statue. Huzhu Pagoda is a seven-storey Northern Song structure built in 1079; its distinctive southeast lean is commonly measured at about seven degrees. Tianma Mountain is therefore both a viewpoint and a compact cultural landscape, suited to a short climb with historical stops along the route. The park entrance is listed on Shen Zhuan Highway, with access through the Tianma Mountain Garden east gate.
