About Novi Bioskop Zvezda

Novi Bioskop Zvezda is a historic cinema in central Belgrade, housed in a building opened in 1911 as the Koloseum. It later became known as Zvezda and was part of the Beograd Film cinema network. After the cinema closed and remained neglected following privatisation, around 200 artists, filmmakers and activists occupied the building in November 2014 under the Movement for the Occupation of Cinemas. They renamed it Novi Bioskop Zvezda and began restoring its public cultural role. The venue has hosted film screenings and independent cultural events, including open-air summer projections on its terrace. Its programme has included international classics, Serbian films and family titles, while admission for some screenings has been donation-based rather than fixed-price. The cinema is on Terazije, one of Belgrade’s central streets, making it a compact stop for visitors exploring the city centre and its alternative cultural history. Because screenings are event-based and may be seasonal, visitors should check the latest programme before arriving.
