The Obelisk of the Non-Aligned Countries stands in the Park of the Non-Aligned Countries, on the plateau above the eastern end of Branko Bridge in Belgrade’s Stari Grad municipality. It commemorates the First Conference of the Non-Aligned Countries, held in Belgrade in September 1961. The monument was erected on 1 September 1961 as part of the city’s visual programme for the summit. Unlike several other temporary installations created for the conference, the obelisk remained in place. The structure is approximately 27 metres high and is distinguished by its tall, white form. A plaque at its base records that it was raised in September 1961 for the first conference and restored in August 1989 for the Ninth Conference of the Non-Aligned Countries, which was also held in Belgrade. The obelisk was renovated again in 2021 for the sixtieth anniversary of the first conference. Its position near Branko Bridge links the monument with the historic diplomatic role of Belgrade and the wider modernist landscape of the former Yugoslav capital.
