Nothing at all is enterable, and the column has less surviving detail than any other Roman monument in Istanbul — which is precisely what makes the inscription carry so much weight. That text replaced an earlier dedication, so even the column's own statement about itself is a second draft. Who it honours is unsettled. The column is dated to the third or fourth century, and two emperors are proposed: Claudius II Gothicus, who reigned from 268 to 270, and Constantine the Great, who reigned from 306 to 337.
