German Fountain

The German Fountain is an octagonal, neo-Byzantine gazebo fountain standing in Sultanahmet Square, a gift from German Emperor Wilhelm II to Sultan Abdul Hamid II to mark the Kaiser's 1898 state visit to Istanbul. Eight marble columns support a domed roof over the fountain basin, with a gold-ground mosaic ceiling inside the dome carrying the monograms of Wilhelm II and Abdul Hamid II side by side.
