Istanbul's museum of industry, transport and communication sits on the northern shore of the Golden Horn at Hasköy, well upstream of the tourist city and reached by water more pleasantly than by road. The collection is arranged across two campuses either side of Hasköy Caddesi and an open-air yard between them, so the visit is a sequence of indoor halls and outdoor walking rather than a single circuit. This is a museum of hard surfaces, and it rewards a different approach from a mosque or a palace.
