Polynesian Cultural Center

The Polynesian Cultural Center is a large-scale cultural theme park and living museum located on Oʻahu's north-east coast near Lāʻie. The center features recreated traditional villages representing seven Polynesian cultures, each staffed by native ambassadors who demonstrate crafts, games, cooking, and daily practices. Visitors encounter canoe paddling, coconut tree climbing, tattooing demonstrations, and lei making. The Hukilau Marketplace offers dining and shopping. The Aliʻi Luau provides a feast with entertainment. The Pacific Theater hosts cinematic presentations. Closed Sundays and other Wednesdays. Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day; during weeks containing these holidays, the Center opens Wednesday in place of the holiday closure.

A comprehensive visit typically spans a full day, approximately eight to twelve hours, to experience village demonstrations, interactive activities, marketplace dining, and the evening show. Arriving by early afternoon allows adequate exploration of multiple villages before evening programming. Those prioritizing only the luau and Ha: Breath of Life may allocate five to six hours. Visitors should note that north shore traffic from Waikīkī can extend transit time significantly, particularly during peak periods, making same-day compressed scheduling impractical for thorough engagement.

Group rates and kamaʻāina discounts may apply for eligible visitors. Base self-guided Islands of Polynesia admission: US$94.95 adult and US$75.96 child aged 4–11. Taxes and processing fees are additional. Children under 4 are admitted without charge but require an adult’s lap for motor-coach transport and HĀ seating unless they have a paid ticket.

The center sits approximately thirty-eight miles from Waikīkī via Kamehameha Highway, a scenic coastal drive requiring roughly ninety minutes under favorable conditions. Traffic congestion through Haleʻiwa and along narrow north shore segments extends duration unpredictably. Rental vehicles provide maximum flexibility. The Ha: Breath of Life evening show explicitly prohibits photography and video recording throughout its duration; staff enforce this policy strictly. Drone operation is prohibited across the entire property. Visitors should seek verbal confirmation before photographing individual performers closely, as cultural protocols vary.
