About Palais Schlick

Palais Schlick is a protected historic city palace at the corner of Türkenstraße and Schlickgasse in Vienna’s Alsergrund district. The five-storey building was commissioned for Franz Heinrich Reichsgraf von Schlik and constructed between 1856 and 1858. Architect Carl Tietz designed the palace, while city master builder Anton Grünn carried out the construction. Palais Schlick belongs to the early historicist tradition and is distinguished by its rounded corner tower. The tower was originally one storey lower; an additional upper storey was added in 1872. The façade includes prominent portals on Türkenstraße, balconies, an attic balustrade with vases, military emblems and sculptural details. The site was part of the Neu-Wien urban expansion area. Before the palace was built, the location was associated with Vienna’s former Rabenstein execution site, which operated there from the medieval period until 1788. Palais Schlick remains a listed monument in Vienna.
