About Atlas Cinema

Atlas Cinema is a cinema venue on İstiklal Avenue in Beyoğlu, Istanbul. It occupies a historic building first constructed in 1870 as Köçeyan Mansion. The building was converted into an entertainment and arts centre in 1932, and Atlas Cinema opened there on 19 February 1948 with a capacity of 1,860 seats. The venue became one of Beyoğlu’s major cinemas. The building was transferred to Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 1992 and underwent a major restoration beginning in 2019. Today, the complex also houses the Istanbul Cinema Museum, which presents Turkish cinema history through film posters, personal objects, wax figures and an interactive digital archive. Atlas 1948 continues to host film screenings and cultural programming, including special events and festival presentations. It stands inside Atlas Passage at number 131 on İstiklal Avenue, in the Kuloğlu area. Visitors should check the official programme before travelling because screening times depend on the scheduled films and events.
