Pollok Country Park

Pollok Country Park is Glasgow's country park, a large former estate in the city's south-west rather than a formal city-centre garden. Glasgow City Council owns and manages the park. Its landscape has woodland, riverside paths and open parkland, so it works better as an outdoor walk than as a compact circuit. The park still feels rural despite being inside Glasgow. The Burrell Collection sits inside the park but is a separate museum visit, with its own galleries, facilities and opening hours. Use the park for the outdoor route between those points. Allow about 90 minutes for an outdoor first visit to Pollok Country Park: enough time for a purposeful walk from an entrance through the grounds and back without trying to cover every path. The park has enough space that trying to cover every path in one hour makes the route feel rushed.

For a combined visit, use The Burrell Collection's published museum hours as the fixed part of the day: 10am to 5pm from Monday to Thursday and on Saturday, and 11am to 5pm on Friday and Sunday. A car is optional. Glasgow Life directs bus visitors to Pollokshaws Road, where services 57 and 57A stop directly opposite the park entrance, or to Shawbridge Street for service 3 and Dumbreck Road for services 34 and 34A. Shawlands station is about ten minutes on foot. From Glasgow Central, trains run to Pollokshaws West; the Pollokshaws Road entrance at 2060 Pollokshaws Road is less than a five-minute walk from the station. Shawlands station is about a ten-minute walk away. Bus routes 57 and 57A stop opposite the Pollokshaws Road entrance; route 3 serves Shawbridge Street at Shawholm Crescent, and routes 34 and 34A serve Dumbreck Road opposite Haggswood Avenue. A free wheelchair-accessible electric shuttle runs seven days a week, 10:00–18:15, on a 20–30-minute loop between the Pollokshaws Road entrance, the Burrell Collection and Pollok House. Cars enter for the Burrell Collection via 2060 Pollokshaws Road; Pollok House and Riverside Car Park are reached from Dumbreck Road and Lochinch Road. Cars cannot drive through the middle of the park.

The Burrell Collection is a separate indoor option within the park, and only assistance dogs are permitted inside that building. Parking is the main cost and capacity risk for a visit using the museum car park. Blue badge bays are free when a valid badge is displayed. For photographs, build the route around three contrasting Pollok Country Park scenes: reflections and overhanging branches along White Cart Water, long views across open grass, and the formal approach to Pollok House. Early or late side light gives the mature trees more texture than a flat midday sky, while overcast weather keeps detail in both foliage and stone. Along the river, use bends in the water and leaning trunks as foreground lines. The Burrell Collection has step-free level entry, lifts to all three floors, two Changing Places toilets and nine additional accessible toilets.
