Palais Erzherzog Carl Ludwig stands at Favoritenstraße 7 in Vienna’s Wieden district. A small Baroque country house was built here around 1780 for Franz Freiherr von Prandau, with Adalbertus Hild named as the architect. Franz Wipplinger added two side wings and a street-facing section in 1799, creating an enclosed courtyard. The Sachsen-Coburg-Koháry family later owned the palace, and Archduke Carl Ludwig acquired it in 1865. Heinrich von Ferstel redesigned the complex in 1872–1873 under the direction of Eduard Frauenfeld. The surviving courtyard and garden wing retain historic architectural details, including a central projection, a balcony, a Habsburg-Lorraine coat of arms and decorative attic features. Interior descriptions record a Neo-Renaissance wooden ceiling, a hall decorated with stucco lustro and a richly ornamented mirrored ceiling. The street wing suffered severe damage during the Second World War and was demolished after the war; a modern building now occupies that frontage. The remaining palace is privately owned and is not presented as a regular public museum or visitor attraction. Austria’s Federal Monuments Office lists the former palace as a protected monument.
