Palais Ofenheim is a protected historic palace at Schwarzenbergplatz 15 in Vienna’s Innere Stadt, with the corresponding historic address Lothringerstraße 5. It was built in 1868 for the railway industrialist Viktor Ofenheim, Ritter von Ponteuxin. The design is attributed to the architects August Schwendenwein and Johann Romano, whose work places the building within Vienna’s Ringstrasse-era historicism. The palace forms part of the architectural ensemble around Schwarzenbergplatz, where late nineteenth-century monumental buildings frame the square and the southern edge of Vienna’s central district. The building is now used as an office property by Zurich Insurance Austria, so it is principally an exterior architectural landmark rather than a public museum. Visitors can view its street façade from Schwarzenbergplatz and Lothringerstraße while walking between the city centre, the Musikverein and the Vienna State Opera. Interior access should not be expected unless the building operator announces a public opening or event.
