About Bezirksmuseum Hietzing
Bezirksmuseum Hietzing is the district museum for Vienna’s 13th district, at Am Platz 2 in historic Hietzing. The museum describes Hietzing as a villa quarter and follows its local history from prehistory into the twentieth century. Its permanent displays include Palaeolithic finds identified by the museum as the oldest evidence of human life in the Vienna area, two Neolithic stone slabs used as an early grain mill, historical views and material on local associations. Highlights include Bertha von Suttner’s typewriter, Friedrich Julius Bieber’s Ethiopian collection, an original costume from the 1879 Makart procession, a model of Josef Hoffmann’s Villa Primavesi, and displays on Egon Schiele and the Habsburg court.
Admission is free. The operator lists regular opening on Wednesday 14:00–18:00 and Saturday 14:00–17:00; the museum is closed during school holidays, on the Saturday before a school holiday and on public holidays. The phone number 0664 9324 9843 is answered only during opening hours, and the museum directs other enquiries to [email protected]. For public transport, use U4 Hietzing, trams 10 or 60, or buses 51A, 56A, 56B, 58A and 58B to Hietzing/Kennedybrücke. Step-free entry is through the school courtyard. Check the operator’s current notice before travelling because holiday and special-opening exceptions apply.
