About Osaka Castle Park

Osaka Castle Park (大阪城公園) is a large public park in central Osaka, surrounding Osaka Castle and its historic grounds. The park combines lawns, wooded paths, stone walls, moats and gates, so visiting the castle involves considerable walking beyond the museum building itself. Osaka Castle Park is also a seasonal landscape: the Osaka city authority identifies the park’s plum grove as a major winter attraction, while cherry blossoms are prominent in spring around the castle area and Nishinomaru Garden. The castle keep contains the Osaka Castle Museum, which presents the history of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Osaka Castle; museum admission and hours are separate from access to the wider park. Nishinomaru Garden is likewise a distinct paid garden area rather than simply an indoor castle room. Several railway stations serve the park, including Osakajokoen, Morinomiya and Tanimachi 4-chome, with the best approach depending on whether you are heading first to the keep, the plum grove or Nishinomaru Garden. The park works well as an outdoor complement to the castle museum, especially for visitors who want to see the defensive landscape, seasonal planting and long views across the grounds. Allow extra time for the walk between entrances and the central keep.
